FIRST LOOK: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Want To Dress Michelle Obama

These days, acting has taken a backseat for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen–and with good reason. In the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the designing duo open up about their successful high-end label, The Row, as well as their dream client. The Row is just three years in the making and proof that the 24-year-olds have successfully crossed from Hollywood to Fifth Avenue. They credit a disciplined work ethic (six-day weeks!) and an easy-to-follow aesthetic: “When we were growing up, our mother taught us never to have your belly button exposed,” Mary-Kate tells Bazaar. And though both Mary-Kate and Ashley are known for their boho-meets-grunge style, as designers, they offer up a fall collection that’s decidedly more minimalist and low-key, showcasing muted classics like a black wrap coat, an expertly-tailored white shift and a perfect lazy-day jumpsuit. The style mavens derive their inspiration from designers like Miuccia Prada and legendary model-turned-actress Lauren Hutton. And while stars like Jessica Biel and Charlize Theron have been spotted in The Row, there is one leading lady they are hoping to dress. “I’d love to get Michelle Obama in the Row,” Ashley says. “The simple suits and things. It’s all made in America, so why not?” How patriotic! Read more at harpersbazaar.com, or pick up your own issue on newsstands August 17. — Hana Choi

That would be pretty interesting! Jen Aniston looks great on The September Issue of Harper’s Bazaar!

wouldn’t work dressing Obama, for 1 she is not patriotic, don’t even like America, so why would she care if it was made in the USA, and 2 why would you bother?

I can’t believe this. They can’t put their own outfits together and you want to dress the first lady. Can’t wait to see that!!!!!!!!

I still think their fashion success is driven solely by their celebrity. I’m very into fashion and check out the lines every season and I’m still completely underwhelmed by The Row, as well as Elizabeth and James. They’re lines that are full of overpriced, simplistic staples and show no creativity. Nor do they add to the high-end landscape. Of all celebrity lines, I think Gwen Stefani does the best job. Each piece has personality and every season has a story, which is what a good collection is supposed to do.

They have absolutely no sense of style (unless it’s bag-lady chic), and they want to dress one of the best-dressed women in the world?? Ms. Obama needs to dress THEM instead.
