Sophia Bush Hits The Pavement To Help the Gulf Coast

Amanda Schwab/Startraks

Sophia Bush is gearing up to break a big sweat this fall—and all for a good cause. Although she hasn’t run a mile since junior high, the 28-year-old One Tree Hill star recently blogged about her plan to run a half marathon in November to benefit the Gulf Coast. Bush is determined to complete the 13.1-mile race despite a longtime battle with asthma. “An asthma attack is terrifying,” Bush wrote. “And when you’ve been debilitated by such attacks you begin to avoid activities that trigger them.” The stylish star kicked off her training last Wednesday with a one-mile treadmill run, and has increased her workouts daily. As week two of training begins, she is running with a group of about 12 runners. To get fit for roles in the past, Bush has worked with trainers who helped whip her body into “fighting shape.” Now, she’s taking her workout to the streets in an effort to raise money for the people of the Gulf Coast. “They need all the help they can get,” wrote Bush, who is reaching out to friends and family to garner sponsorship dollars. “So I am running. For the Gulf. For all of you. Because when my lungs start hurting, and my legs start screaming ‘this running business is BULL, Sophia!’ I think of all of YOU.” To learn more, check out sophiabush.com. –Katherine Perry

While I think it is amazing that people are going out of their way to do things like this it also makes me angry to know that clearly BP is not doing enough. The US with such a low unemployment rate should not have to give to a cleanup charity that is supposed to be completely financially covered by BP. I think its noble but at the same time maybe we should focus on pressuring BP to pay for these things instead of asking fellow Americans who already cant afford their weekly groceries. I know if you can afford to give then its not so bad but it really shouldnt even be coming down to that!

Really, I think its great, its just frustrating to see commercials about how much money they are spending and how they are completely responsible when really, americans are having to help foot the bill too. It shouldnt be that way and somebody needs to start pressuring them to spend more than the small 20 billion theyve promised to pay out when in reality they made twice that much last year.

Love her. She’s such a class act.

That’s awesome! I know some of you would love to see BP pay for every bottle of Dawn to clean the birds, etc., it’s unrealistic as they still need to pay their employees; many of whom are employed in the Gulf. They also need to pay for the upkeep and upgrades to their rigs and dig themselves and their shareholders (many Americans, not all white collar) out of a hole. I’d love to see the whole bill; mortgages, food, utilities, medical, so on, it’s not realistic. This, what Sophia is doing, is amazing! More “star power” need to get involved like they did for Haiti.

As an asthmatic I totally agree that you start to avoid activities that trigger such terrifying attacks. She makes me proud to be a fan doing things like this. Good luck to her!

This is the bimbo who was so happy yesterday when Prop 8 got overturned. Bad news Sophia, a higher court will reinstate it!

Way to go Sophia! I have asthma too and I dread my exercise days when it’s cardio time. For you to run a marathon for the people of the Gulf and risk your asthma flaring up shows a lot of class. Good for you & thank you!!
