How Angelina Jolie Got in Special Agent Shape for ‘Salt’

David Giesbrecht

Angelina Jolie had to be in tip-top shape for her role as a kick-ass CIA agent on the run in the new action thriller Salt, opening today. So what did the stunning A-lister do to prepare for the demanding part? She ate about five small meals a day and stuck to a diet of 70% carbs and 30% protein–and actually avoided cardio–to help “put muscle on without losing weight,” says trainer Simon Crane, who worked with the actress to get in top form for the film. On the hit list: No junk food, and alcohol only on weekends. And the most surprising thing about Angelina’s Salt diet? Carbs weren’t a mortal enemy. To build muscle and stamina for her role as CIA officer Evelyn Salt, Jolie was disciplined with her training regimen. “She knew that she was going to suffer!” says Crane, who started the actress with two-hour training sessions, five days a week. Both strength and fight training helped prepare the star for stunts involving safety cables and wire rigs. Once shooting began, they took training down a notch by squeezing in four weekly sessions over lunch breaks and weekends, and altered her diet to 60% carbs and 40% protein. And forget about any fear of heights: ”She loves doing action,” says Crane. –Thailan Pham

Kate Moss’s Vintage Bags Inspire Her Fall Longchamp Collection

Longchamp

When Kate Moss needed inspiration for her second collection of handbags for Longchamp, she looked no further than her own closet. “I had a couple of vintage bags from the ’70s that I picked up in second-hand shops in Florence and Marrakech,” the supermodel-turned-designer says in a release. “One of them had a patchwork design. I showed it to Sophie [Delafontaine, Longchamp's artistic director], and found out that at exactly the same time, Longchamp had been working with patchwork and lambskin.” Now, Moss is bringing back her unique vintage find in her much-anticipated fall collection for the French brand. And while the new deep hues are a departure from the soft neutrals of her first collection, we love the exotic jewel-tone patchwork and hippie-chic vibe of these new ads and bags. Check out Longchamp.com to window shop Moss’s fall line –you won’t be able to purchase until fall so start saving now! Uh-Oh! The Lowdown on Britney Spears’s Bad Hair Day

Fame

Talk about a bad hair day! Britney Spears was snapped shopping in Sherman Oaks, California, Wednesday with a messy, extension baring look that set the internet abuzz with fans speculating about exactly what was happening to her scalp. Was she going bald? Were her extensions done incorrectly? We checked in with hairstylist-to-the stars Ken Paves–who has his own line of extensions that he uses on clients like Eva Longoria Parker and Jessica Simpson–to learn the truth. “It’s not that big of a deal actually, we have all seen this before. A case of bed head, who hasn’t had it?,” Paves tells PEOPLE. “The truth is that this is exactly how these extensions are applied, however we are not supposed to see them, that’s all. There are thousands and thousands of women walking around whose hair looks just like that ‘underneath’. The remedy is simply to cover it up. It’s not a case of bad extensions, just a bad hair day!” His recommendation? “I am more concerned with the friend walking behind her who didn’t tell her right away! Ladies, support your sisters and stay on weave patrol, your day may come too! Help a sister out!” Tell us: Would you tell a friend if her extensions were showing? Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester

Plus Size Model Crystal Renn Takes On The Critics

Brian Zak/Sipa

Crystal Renn was returning from a photoshoot in Paris for French Vogue earlier this month when she got some troubling news. Retouched photos of the plus size model, who famously overcame anorexia and exercise bulimia 7 years ago before rising to the top of her profession, had been released showing the size 10 beauty looking shockingly thin. “You want to laugh because you know it’s not you, but then you realize everyone out there seeing these images thinks it is,” Renn tells PEOPLE. “I was obviously upset and concerned. I don’t want some girl who’s recovering from anorexia to see the picture and think I don’t think that you can be any size and be beautiful. That’s completely not what I’m about.” But Renn, 24, is the first to admit that she is slimmer now than when she first relaunched her career as a plus size model at 5’9” and 175 lbs. “Over the years I had made my way down to 165 lbs. and a size 12,” says Renn, who has walked the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel and booked campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana. In the last year, she slimmed down to 150 lbs. and a size 10 when she finally began exercising again after 7 years during which she avoided all workouts. But discovering “fun” activities like hiking and yoga helped her take a more balanced approach to fitness in the past year, she says. “I used to workout obsessively for 8 hours a day,” she admits. “Now, I want to do something fun that’s good for my body.” For more information on Crystal Renn’s body controversy, pick up the latest issue of PEOPLE on stands now. –Charlotte Triggs

Taylor Momsen Admits: “I Don’t Brush My Hair”

From her severe black-rimmed eyes to her shiny red lips and perfect bed head, Taylor Momsen’s tough girl look is as much a staple off-screen as it is on. But how long does it take the young Gossip Girl star to achieve rock star perfection? Not long. “I shower, then I put a ton of black on my eyes, then I put lipstick on and a little bit of blush and then, I don’t brush my hair,” Taylor Momsen jokes in a video for MTV.com. In fact, even though Momsen’s heavy makeup looks extremely calculated, the starlet reveals that it’s actually a lot easier than it seems. “[I use] whatever black eyeshadow and liner–that isn’t empty– in my makeup case and charcoal it on,” says Momsen. Check out MTV.com to hear Taylor dish on her beauty regime, style and why she fired her stylist. –Andrea DeSimone
