Julia Roberts ‘Loved Every Pound’ She Gained for Latest Role

Jackson Lee/Splash News Online

Filming all over the world, and Italy, for the “eat” portion of the film Eat Pray Love may sound like heaven to most, but the task of eating plate after plate of pasta wasn’t the easiest thing to get used to for Julia Roberts.”They did go to great elaborate pains to make great food that I had to eat. Endlessly eat—in the heat,” recalled the actress at a press conference for the film Thursday at the Bardessono hotel in California’s Napa Valley. “But it was delicious. Ryan [Murphy, the film's director] keeps telling people I gained 10 pounds,” quipped Roberts. “It was a little less than that. And I loved every pound.” Between the pasta, pizza and other Italian delicacies, the endless stream of food did get a bit tiresome after a full day of filming. So, did she swear off Italian for good since completing the film? Not a chance. “[I've eaten] tons, tons. It can’t slow me down.” Directed by Glee‘s Ryan Murphy, Eat Pray Love, based on the bestselling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, hits theaters August 13. –Jen Garcia

I’d love Julia if she gained 25 pounds! She is so adorable and funny and fun and so different than the current crop of whiners and drinkers and druggers. Hooray for her – can’t wait to see the film!

Like Julia a lot. Would it be possible to have entire article (press conference/interview)?

lol 10 lbs on Julia Roberts? I doubt you could even see a difference. I’m with JC.. 25 lbs would be nice to see but 10.. lol what’s the point?

Finally someone in Hollywood who isn’t obsessed with weight! She’s great & can’t wait to see it!

I can’t waite to see this movie and 10, 20 who cares it is Julia.

- Farrah Parks on

she needs to lose weight in her teeth.

I’m sorry, but the previews for that movie could not have made it look more boring. Just very generic and horrifically forced. I guess it’s the kind of movie Julia Roberts can afford to do after so many years…

Erm… Is Italy not considered part of the world?

- Melissa on

Melissa, had you not pointed that out, I would have totally missed it! You just made me laugh, thank you!! :-)

Hahaha, good point Melissa!
And seriously, less than ten pounds?! How can you “ENDLESSLY EAT – in the heat” and only gain less than ten pounds.
I like Julia but honestly, the movie previews make it look generic.
