EXCLUSIVE: Kendall Jenner Responds to Critics of Her Bikini Pics

Her recent Malibu photo shoot had her proud older sisters blogging her praise — and got critics buzzing, as well. Now, 14-year-old Kendall Jenner tells PEOPLE how the beach shoot came to be — and why she’s excited to be a model. “I am excited to be working as a model, doing what I love to do.” The Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star says her family is on board with her decision to model. “My entire family was very supportive, though my dad [Bruce Jenner] was a bit concerned at first, he knows that I am responsible enough that I wouldn’t do anything I wasn’t ready to do, or didn’t want to do.” Kendall may be inspired by supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Gisele, but she’s not looking to grow up too fast either. “Going into this shoot, it was never my intention to be provocative or too racy. It was a beach shoot, and I was wearing beachwear. I am happy with my age, and am not trying to rush into anything too soon. I look forward to all the milestones my teens have to offer–Sweet 16, turning 18, and so on.” Luc Brinker, Kendall’s agent from famed modeling agency Wilhelmina affirms that the budding catwalker is on the right path, telling PEOPLE, “Kendall exudes such a high level of confidence and know how for her age. I’m sure that it comes from having such a great family that gives her endless support and is constantly encouraging her to shine. I think the photo is beautiful. These “controversies” keep coming up every couple of years. I can remember when Nikki Taylor had photos as a teen model that were considered risque. Remember Brooke Shields famous Calvin commercial! I think we all need to stop assuming that someone is going to spiral out of control just because they are modeling in a swimsuit at 14. Have you walked through a high school full of freshmen lately. Low cut and cleavage is a common site. I pull my daughters shirts up and down to cover up regularly but they are both honor students at 14 & 16.

Maybe the real point is that no 14 yr old should be a model for adult clothing. If a model is under 18 yrs old then no adult clothing.If 14 yr olds started wearing age appropriate clothing in the ads maybe then we would have 14 yr olds wearing age appropriate clothing in the real world. It’s a shame that parents and children try to have them grow up so fast-and for what- to be like the Lohan’s? Get rid of child beauty pageants, children wearing adult clothing, much of it provocative, and then maybe we can have our CHILDREN back. BTW-don’t blame the child wanting to wear adult clothing, like bikinis and thong underwear, blame the parents for letting the child wear them.

I was a professional model YEARS ago. I started when I was 11 & did high fashion modeling in NY. In pix I looked 25. Most of the models you see in fashion mags are in their teens. In Vouge & Bazaar esp they can be as young as 16. So if she wants to be a model she is starting at the right age. Most models are out of the biz by their early 20′s. The few exceptions are the VERY few models who the average person knows by name; but they are few & far between. Most of the girls who do editorial work (pix in major fashion mags) are not known by name & VERY VERY youn, 16, 17, etc. When I modeled in Europe at 22 I had to say I was 19. It’s a twisted bix.I’m not a fan of this family BUT I don’t think there is anything wrong with the pix.
