The Low-Down on Michelle and AnnaLynne’s Manicures for Charity

Danny Moloshok/Newscast

Anna Lynne McCord and Michelle Trachtenberg may play scheming high society bad girls on their hit CW shows 90210 and Gossip Girl, but in real life, the two fashion-savvy stars are all about lending a hand–quite literally–to help a good cause. The duo stepped out in Hollywood Thursday to kick off Sally Hansen’s Color that Cares event, offering free manicures to the masses to support bone marrow donor center DKMS, which recruits donors for leukemia patients. “When you come in and get a manicure, you get swabbed and could end up becoming a real-life donor,” explained Michelle, who opted for a “teal, jadey green” color called Fairy Teal. Style-maven Anna Lynn McCord, never one to shy from bold nails, took the do-good opportunity to get two manicures. “I used Calypso Blue,” the actress told PEOPLE. “I initially started out with grass slippers, and then I decided to get crazy and empower more people to get their nails done, so right now I’m rocking a very very bright blue…they’re pretty fabulous if I do say so.” So after enduring a tough day of pampering, what was 90210‘s sexy siren going to do? Eat Taco Bell. “I went there last night on the way home from the airport, and I will probably eat there again today and every 24-hour period–I’m not really a big diet girl.” –Gillian Koenig; reporting by Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester

Gemma Arterton’s ‘Prince of Persia’ Beauty Transformation

Splash News Online

Never mind that actress Gemma Arterton has starred in three blockbusters — as the MI6 redhead Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace, Greek mythology’s Io in Clash of the Titans, and as Persian princess Tamina in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Despite her many roles, you still may not recognize her. But the truth is even the 24-year-old English rose admits that she can sometimes barely place her own face — and she’s happy about it. “One of the thrilling things for me is looking very different in films and not recognizing myself,” the newly married actress explained to PEOPLE of her chameleon-like looks. “My makeup artist always says that you can do many things with my face, which is really good when you’re an actress.” To get Persia-nized, she spent hours in the hair and makeup chair–an elaborate process, according to Arterton, whose hair was dyed jet black and lengthened with clip-in extensions. She also endured lengthy, meticulous henna tattoo applications and a head-to-toe fake tan achieved using a special face and body makeup by M.A.C. “The most tanned I’ve ever been in my life,” says the star of her Prince of Persia look. “When I watch the movie, I’m like ‘oh, God!’ Usually, I’m a very pale person.” To hear more about Gemma’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time transformation and the actress’s real-life beauty routine, be sure to pick up the current issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands now.–Marissa Patlingrao Cooley; reporting by Jackie Fields

Hayden Panettiere On Her Spontaneous New Do: ‘I Like Abrupt Changes’

Frederick Breedon/WireImage

When it comes to her hair, Hayden Panettiere is proving herself quite the drama queen. After dying her tresses auburn and then chopping her shoulder-grazing locks into a pixie cut earlier this year, the Heroes star rocked an even shorter, back-to-blonde style at Wednesday’s 2010 CMT Music Awards. “It wasn’t scary,” the 20-year-old actress explained to PEOPLE of taking the plunge. “I’m pretty spontaneous. I like abrupt changes–it excites me.” Dressed in an asymmetrical turquoise-and-black Pucci dress, the petite vixen cut a striking figure — anchored, of course, by the bold new cut. “I love it — it’s daring and it’s easier for me,” she said. “You always try to find your own sense of style, so when I chopped my hair off I felt like I was my own self in my own way. I didn’t feel like I was trying to emulate anyone. I felt very me.” Tell us: What do you think of Hayden’s cut? –Marissa Patlingrao Cooley; reporting by Eileen Finan
