Jessica Alba’s Beauty Routine: For Real-Life and the Red Carpet

Steve Granitz/WireImage

With her natural beauty and spot-on sense of style, one wouldn’t think that Jessica Alba would have much need for makeup, but it turns out the 29-year-old actress is a bit of a beauty junkie. In the July issue of British magazine Company, the star reveals that she was sporting a full face of makeup at the tender age of 10, thanks to her mother. “She was going to cosmetology school and she needed a model to practice on!” explains Alba. “[It was] for the swim team picture — full on winged eyeliner, the works.” So it seems fitting that the stunning actress would go on to become a brand ambassador for Revlon, whose products, of course, anchor the star’s off-duty makeup routine: “Concealer, Revlon’s cream blush and a light tinted base or moisturizer,” she dishes. And when it comes time to dress up her look for the red-carpet, the new mom says it’s all about dark lipstick, mascara and eyeliner. “That’s my thing–a dark lip!” As for the differences between L.A. girls and London ladies? “London’s definitely a bit more fashion-forward than LA!” she reveals. “I like London’s style–it’s edgy, urban…The girls are very cool here.” For more on Jessica, pick up the July issue of Company or visit Company.com –Gillian Koenig

Cate Blanchett’s New Cropped Cut: Love It Or Hate It?

Mike Coppola/FilmMagic

Cate Blanchett is never afraid to make a splash on the red carpet. But at Sunday night’s 2010 Tony Awards in New York City, it was the star’s new boy-short haircut, not her outfit, that stole the show. Even while draped in diamonds from Van Cleef & Arpels and dressed in a shimmering Giorgio Armani Privé pantsuit, the Tony presenter’s dramatic neck-baring do seemed to turn the most heads. While we loved her shoulder-grazing strawberry-blond waves, we like that Blanchett has joined the ever-growing ranks of Hollywood beauties with pixie-cut fever: The style gives the 41-year-old Robin Hood actress an even more regal feel. Tell us: What do you think of Cate’s new cut? –Marissa Patlingrao Cooley

Soccer Style: Katy Perry Shows Love for USA and England

Flynet

So what is a “California Gurl” to do if she’s marrying a die-hard British soccer fan? Split the difference, of course! When USA played England in soccer’s World Cup tournament on Saturday, Katy Perry was the picture of international diplomacy. Rather than choose one team as she famously did with 34-year-old Brand’s favorite London club West Ham at the European MTV awards, the singer-songwriter donned a dress that was half stars and stripes and half Union Jack flag. And she called it right as the game ended in a tie, at one goal apiece. Moments after arriving at the James Corden’s World Cup Live show, she jumped from the sofa to scream “America!” And then she was off her seat again, shouting “England!” She smiled and said, “It’s not about football. It’s just I feel very divided in general.” The showbiz pair, who got engaged in January, are currently planning their wedding. Tell us: Who are you routing for in the World Cup?–Simon Perry

Courtesy Saks Fifth Avenue

Uma Thurman is joining fashion forces with Saks Fifth Avenue and Donna Karan to help in the battle against breast cancer. The actress was named Friday as the ambassador for Saks’ Annual Key to the Cure shopping event, which in partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, has raised more than $33 million for cancer research in the 12 years since its inception. “Everyone I know has been affected by breast cancer one way or the other,” says Thurman in a release. “It is vital that we work toward a cure as well as develop more accurate and advance testing.” Thurman will star in print ads as well as a national public service announcement sporting a limited-edition and very chic T-shirt designed by Donna Karan. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the $35-shirt will be donated to local partner charities. “For me, it’s not just about dressing women; it’s about addressing the issues that are so important to all of us,” says Karan in a release. The T-shirts will be available at all Saks Fifth Avenue stores and on Saks.com beginning October 1. Sak’s annual charity shopping weekend will take place from Oct. 21 – 24. Would You Wear A Front-Bun Like Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard?

Giancarlo Gorassini/Abaca; INF

Lately, Hollywood beauties seem to have a case of the migrating chignon. At some point, the neat, low-slung ballet bun gave way to a messier topknot, which, in turn, evolved into a loose twist just above the forehead. A-listers Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard both showed off the look during the high-glamour 2010 Cannes Film Festival, demonstrating just how this vaguely rockabilly style can telegraph red carpet polish. We’re all for experimenting with new hairstyles, but we’re still on the fence about this alterna-chignon. Is it a fresh take on a classic style? Or a fussy, overdone look? Tell us: Would you wear a front-bun?
