Katie Holmes Dishes on Her 'Classics With a Twist' Clothing Line

It’s not just Katie Holmes‘s jeans that get fashionistas talking. The star has been slowly unveiling designs from her two-year-old Holmes & Yang line, co-designed by her stylist and friend Jeanne Yang, by wearing them to great acclaim on the red carpet. The two first had the idea for the label while going through Katie’s own closet four years ago as they both agreed that women, like men, needed wardrobe staple-based uniforms for everyday wear. “We want to create pieces a woman can wear over and over, and people won’t necessarily say, ‘Oh, you wore that last week,'” Holmes says. The two have since based their collection on what Yang–whose clients include Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Eva Mendes–calls “classics with a twist,” which includes basics like blouses, trousers, jumpsuits, skirts, and cocktail dresses that retail on the much higher end ($945 for a blouse, for example). And lest one of Hollywood’s favorite rising fashion stars, Katie’s 4-year-old daughter Suri, be left out, Holmes & Yang is turning out a few matching styles for the pint-size set. “They love matching Mom,” Holmes says of her daughter and other sartorially minded girls. “And it’s a limited time during which they really want to.” To hear more from Katie and Jeanne, check out ELLE.com or pick up their current issue, on newsstands now. –Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

BORING clothing! And I’m sorry, but KATIE HOLMES, you will never be a fashion icon, hon.

Katie, Katie…repeat after me… you are NOT Posh. You will never be Posh. Posh actually has enough creativity to create her own line without just adding her name to someone else’s ideas. Posh is Posh. You are not Posh. Your clothing is very boring and over priced. Multiple celebrities have worn and been photographed wearing Beckham’s pieces. Aside from you, and your spoiled daughter, no one will be wearing your line. You are not Posh!

Why would this appeal to anyone? Katie has done nothing in her life to suggest that she can design clothes. Indeed, she is very often poorly dressed, with clothes that neither fit well not flatter. Even a famous and talented actress could not sell me on a line of clothes – Katie is clearly neither.

I love Katie as a person and mom and feel connected to her style from the last couple of years…not when she was trying to emulate Victoria Beckman. I would buy this line if it is about quality and value. If I can avoid the Mall and look good in a piece that will last a few years that is great. Some people here are misunderstanding they are comparing to blouses that cost 995 not that that is what they will charge.

Amethyst…yes her clothes retail on the higher end. The retail price for one of her blouses it 945.00 You should click on the link to Elle.com

The prices are affordable for those who have an annual income of $10 million a year not for me who makes $56,000 a year. I’d rather take $945.00 and another $150.00 and buy a new stainless steel french door refrigerator than buy one of these blouses that I can go and buy at my local GAP.

The clothes are nice but not worth that price just because a celebrity and her designer friend.

She must be following after Victoria Beckham…but it is a recession! I plan to see what she has and replicate it via a more affordable route. I wish her well, but it would have been better to consider the masses who are not rich but are loyal fans…

Just one of her blouses is $900+. Her outfits cost thousands of dollars!! The Elle.com link tells you the prices of the outfits. I’ll just stick to Joe Fresh ha ha!

Anyone who can afford $945 for a blouse does not want staples that they can wear over and over again. They want new fashions every time! And the people who want fashions staples can’t afford $945 for one blouse.
