A Royal Affair: Princess Victoria's Wedding Weekend Style

While many girls dream about looking like royalty on their wedding day, Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, who married her beau Daniel Westling in Stockholm on Saturday, embodied the fantasy, donning three equally stunning looks during the weekend-long celebration. The princess kicked off the wedding reception Friday with the first of two custom Elie Saab Couture looks–a high-necked, cap-sleeve pale-pink cocktail dress embellished with a spray of appliqué clusters, which she paired with flirty gold pumps. Later that evening at a concert gala, she literally dazzled in her second Elie Saab creation–a sweeping, hand-embroidered asymmetrical nude gown adorned with delicate pearls and floral appliqués. Finally, for her wedding at Stockholm Cathedral, the elegant brunette looked fittingly regal, dressed in a custom-made ivory silk off-the-shoulder gown by Swedish designer Par Engsheden, according to InStyle.com, and custom Roger Vivier silk satin pumps with rhinestone buckles. For a finishing touch, the princess topped off the elegant look with the ultimate fairy-tale princess accessory: A towering cameo-bedecked tiara worn by her mother to her 1976 wedding.–Marissa Patlingrao Cooley

This is how it’s done ladies (and gentlemen) with class, dignity, elegance and a good looking groom doesn’t hurt either. Congratulations to both of them. They seem to be totally in love which is nice to see in this day and age.

I have to say, her weddinggown was actually really, really modern compared to the weddinggowns worn at previous royal weddings. The fabric she wore here seems to be a standard and it is quite “stiff”, but usually they wear long sleeves or at least 3/4 sleeve. Just look at the dresses worn by Mette-Marit of Norway, Sylvia of Sweden (granted that was awhile back), Mary and Marie of Denmark. Of these the only one wearing any embellishment of any kind really was French Marie who wore lace-sleeves. I was surprised she wore shortsleeve considering previous gowns, I kind of thought a royal bride had to cover their arms in church. It was a pleasent surprise though :)
That said, I was in Stockholm on Saturday during the wedding and watched it with thousands of other people there. It was a beautiful ceremony and they look really in love.

I think it’s funny that someone asked “Who cares?”. Obviously you know nothing about European politics. And her great-great-great grandmother was Queen Victoria of England :)

So nice to see a lovely wedding gown with sleeves. It looks classy and beautiful. I am so tired of seeing strapless gowns, they look tacky and cheap. People need to take a look at this wedding and realize you don’t need to show alot of skin to look like a beautiful princess.
