Jake Gyllenhaal Hits the Shower for His Fitness Routine

Disney/Everett

After bulking up for his role for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s body has been sparking equal parts envy and desire — but just like the fabled Samson, the new action star’s strength, it seems, is all in his tousled hair. “The Jake Gyllenhaal workout plan…starts with growing long, long hair,” the actor jokes with Entertainment Tonight Canada. “Very long…gorgeous greasy locks and then washing every day….Wash, shampoo, then condition. Washing works the biceps and then the triceps by conditioning. And vigorously rubbing all of your body with soap really defines the abs and the pectoral muscles. And if you do squats while you’re bathing — that’s it!” Jokes aside, the star also revealed a serious side when it came to getting in prime shape for the role. “It was really important for me to be able to do all the stunts and the things asked of me,” he says of his desire to make a believably stalwart hero. But now that the film is wrapped, the actor isn’t quite as hardcore about his workout routine. “I don’t have any muscles anymore now. It’s all just whittled down to little twigs,” he quips. “I walk around unable to move my arms.” Sounds like it’s time to start lathering up that shampoo! –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester

Leona Lewis: ‘I Want to Do a Vegetarian Range of Clothing’

Courtesy InStyle

Leona Lewis might love fashion, but not at the expense of her moral beliefs. In the June issue of InStyle UK, the British songstress and animal rights advocate tells the magazine that she plans to design her own vegetarian fashion line. Featured on the cover, the singer-songwriter, who has always spoken of her struggle to find cool non-leather shoes, speaks to InStyle about designer-favorite Stella McCartney, as well as her plans to start her own animal-friendly line. “I love Stella,” she says. “I want to do a vegetarian range of clothing. I haven’t had time to properly focus on it, I’m still designing.” The 25-year-old singer, who divides her time between London and Los Angeles, has always been outspoken about her beliefs, refusing to wear fur, leather, suede or any other animal by-product–whether on the red carpet or for a photo shoot. When famed British department store Harrods invited Lewis to open their sale, she refused on the basis that the London store sold fur. “I really believe in standing up for what you believe in,” she tells the magazine. “I’d never take money for something that goes against my beliefs.” With her friend Stella rumored to be on board as a consultant, we’re happy to reap the rewards, and can’t wait to see the finished products. Venus Williams’ Fitness Inspiration: Her Tight Dresses!

Peter Kramer/NBC

Even a rigorous training and tour schedule doesn’t keep a pro athlete like Venus Williams from worrying about her figure on occasion. “I wear a lot of tight dresses, so I’m like, ‘I need to do my sit-ups,’” the tennis star told PEOPLE backstage at the Wendy Williams Show, where she was promoting her partnership with Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport. Though she is as tough as they come on the court, Williams admitted one big weakness–sweets. “I really like candy. Sometimes you lose track of what [and] how much you’ve eaten, and then you’re like, ‘Oh God, what have I done?’” she told PEOPLE. So other than hitting the ball around, what does the lithe tennis player do to keep fit? “I started swimming. I love being in the water–and I was never was a good swimmer–but in the last week, I’ve learned to swim,” said Williams, who also recently discovered bike riding–with mixed results. “I actually had a bike accident [that I was] really fortunate to come out of. I stopped suddenly, because I thought the curb was ending, but then I stopped too soon,” she explains. “Thankfully I had my [helmet] on.” –Marissa Patlingrao Cooley; reporting by Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester
