Cate Blanchett’s Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Alpha/Landov

When Cate Blanchett lit up the Riviera red carpet on the first night of the Cannes Film Festival, she did more than help promote her new movie Robin Hood. The Aussie Oscar-winner wore an Alexander McQueen dress in her own special mark of appreciation of the late fashion designer, who died on February 11. The ankle-length black eagle print Jacquard dress with white tulle details
is from the Pre-Fall 2010 collection and was picked out by McQueen specially for the actress. “The dress had been selected and personally chosen by Mr. McQueen and his team for Ms. Blanchett,” a spokeswoman tells PEOPLE. “It was specifically tailored for Ms. Blanchett.” Her movie, in which she gets to shoot arrows in custom-made Roger Vivier riding boots as Lady Marion, was picked as the big name opener for the festival on the French south coast. We can’t think of a better way to honor the late Lee McQueen than on the glamorous red carpet at Cannes. –By Simon Perry and Dana Kennedy

Kardashian Clan On Their New Jewelry Collection: ‘We Did This as a Threesome’

Bauer-Griffin

After giving us a sneak peek at their designs for jewelry label Virgins, Saints & Angels’ last fall, sisters Khloe, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian unveiled their line at L.A.’s Kitson boutique yesterday. The design-dabbling reality stars said they drew inspiration from their heritage when it came to creating the antique-looking assortment of earrings, necklaces and rings. “We are half Armenian and there was a lot we didn’t know about our dad’s side of the family,” Kim told PEOPLE at the Kardashian Collection launch party Tuesday night. A truly collaborative process, each sister, who wore pieces from the VSA line as well as clothing from their collaboration with Bebe, brought her own design motifs to the collection. “I really wanted [three points] to be in the line,” explained Kim. “With three different points representing each sister. Khloe really wanted crosses. Kourtney really liked this infinity symbol and this Armenian star.” Added Khloe, “[The pieces] are all meaningful to all of us because of [their] symbolic history, and the sisterhood in it–that we did this as a threesome.” For more on the Kardashian Collection for Virgin Saints and Angels, visit vsadesigns.com. –Marissa Patlingrao Cooley; reporting by Pearl Barraclough

Toni Braxton Dances Her Way to a Hot Body!

Courtesy Atlantic Records/Getty

At 43, R&B diva Toni Braxton has managed to keep her body as svelte as ever. So how did the six-time Grammy Award winner get into top shape for her new album, Pulse?  ”I can tell you if you just jump and dance to the video ‘Make My Heart’ you will burn about 500 calories alone,” she dishes to PEOPLE of her recent body-shaking music clip. “One of my favorite shows is Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew and I used some of the dancers from that. So it was really inspiring watching them and all the things they can do with their bodies.” Though she can thank her sweaty thrusts for getting her own bod into healthy form, don’t expect her to go all out during her tour this fall. “I have to pace my body,” she admits. “The first week will be three shows and then I’ll build myself up to five shows. Because of my heart ailment I have to make sure that I keep it healthy and not overexert myself too quickly,” says the singer, who suffers from heart disease. Courtesy Asprey; Jen Lowery/StarTraks

In case you’re searching for the Father’s Day gift to end all Father’s Day gifts: Renaissance power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have unveiled their first men’s design for venerable British jewelry house Asprey. As part of jeweler’s limited-edition Protector collection, Angelina and Brad have designed a pair of diamond cufflinks, available at Asprey stores now. Sharing the same serpent-inspired motif as the rest of the collection (snakes were a symbolic guardian talisman during the actress’s first pregnancy), the 18k white gold cufflinks are encrusted with elegant black diamonds and punctuated with emerald snake eyes. As much a philanthropic gift as a fashion statement, the cufflinks retail for a cool $10,000, with 100% of net proceeds going to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict (EPCC), a charitable organization co-founded by Jolie. The collection also includes a jewelled ring and bracelets, as well as children’s items like a tooth box and silver egg cup. Cate Blanchett Mucks It Up in Roger Vivier Boots

Courtesy Roger Vivier

Forget about boots made for walking—these were made for intense trampling, mud-stomping and sword fighting. For Cate Blanchett‘s latest role as the feisty Maid Marion in the latest adaptation of the new action flick Robin Hood, the actress specifically requested Bruno Frisoni—artistic director of French luxury good house Roger Vivier—to custom-create one-of-a-kind boots. “I knew his design would be striking, but what arrived surpassed my expectations. The boots where sleek, sexy and helped give Marion that contemporary edge that Janty and I were searching for,” Blanchett says in a release. “I didn’t want to take them off. I was slightly freaked out by the amount of mud that I had to wade through as I didn’t want to get these gorgeous boots dirty.” The excitement was mutual for Frisoni, who says he began sketching the boots while still on the phone with the actress. “I admire her modernity, which is fragile and strong at the same time,” he says. “I wanted to create some boots that were both feminine and masculine. Sexy seduction on a horse!” To watch Blanchett work the thigh-high boots in the action movie co-starring Russell Crowe, head to theaters nationwide on May 14 when Robin Hood debuts. –David Yi
