Johnny Weir's Pink Mullet Inspiration: 'Sex and the City 2'!

Rob Kim/Retna

Some people have mood rings, Johnny Weir prefers mood hair. After posting a picture of his colorful new do via Twitter last week, the Olympic skater has revealed the inspiration of his latest look: Sex and the City 2! “The book is pink, the game is pink, I’ve [even] got [pink] make-up on myself,” he told PEOPLE at the film’s world premiere Monday night at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. But it looks like the rosy hue will be around for about as long as one of Samantha’s boyfriends. “It’s just for [the premiere]. I’ll change it next week. I’m going baby blue — you heard it here first!” As for the SATC girl he relates to most, the fan has a little trouble choosing. “I think of myself as a Carrie but everyone thinks they’re a Carrie. I have a lot of Charlotte in me, I’m very uptight in many ways, and I’ve got some Samantha in me too though.” –Shruti Dhalwala

@ Jamie

Um, his fans care about him? If you don’t care, why bother commenting?

He finished 6th, by the way. Not “8th or 9th”

Johnny is adorable, fascinating, multi-talented, and amazingly brave to just be himself in front of the world. He has critics and detractors but those of us who love him, will stand by him.

He didn’t finish “8th or 9th”. He finished 6th – the “system” and results has been much scrutinized and he was believed by many to be underscored.
Regardless, to be called an “Olympian” and to be the “6th” best in the WORLD at your sport deserves some respect to say the least.

Johnny is gorgeous! Love his persona, love his artistry, love his sensitivity, love his style. A beautiful human being-inside and out.

Takes a lot of guts to be who you are, and he has always done that not to mention his skating. To me he is the best skater in the world, and he would have been with the old system that appreciated artistry and uniqueness. His lines are impeccable, his movement flawless, he glides across the ice, almost floating above it. I have not seen anyone in the past ten years skate like that, simply not there. But this is the age of accountants, they rule in every part of life including ice skating and its new scoring system.
As far as some comments of Johnny being “too gay”, I am not gay, but have deepest respect for people like Johnny or Adam Lambert for that matter. I have a problem with people even treating a gay person as someone different. On what grounds? That they have sex in a different way? I’m sorry, I ask you this: how many straight couples have sex in all kinds of ways if you know what I mean? There. It’s ridiculous and highly hypocritical. There is no difference, we are all humans. Gays and gay partners should be treated the exact same way as straight couples legally and in every other way.

Jamie, you have NO clue who you’re talking about! Jeesus. Johnny Weir is a 3 time US champion, and has skated in 2 Olympic games, and took a bronze at Worlds! Where have you been?? Under a ROCK?? Johnny has always been Johnny, and he’d laugh at you!!
As for the Olympics, he finished 6th, through no fault of his own (REALLY bad judging, but should have been at least THIRD.) In an Olympic year, the judges prefer a ‘split podium’ (one North American skater, one Asian skater and one European skater). Since Lysacek was a shoo-in, and Plushenko represented the European contingent with a brilliant performance, there wasn’t room for another American up there. So, through some VERY creative judging, the Japanese fella made it to Bronze position. The guy even FELL, for Heaven’s sakes!
As for Johnny’s mullet, he’s happy just to be himself, and it’s cost him points with the judges, for sure, but I admire a man in this day and age who will lose standing on his principles.
