Jake Gyllenhaal Hits the Shower for His Fitness Routine

Disney/Everett

After bulking up for his role for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s body has been sparking equal parts envy and desire — but just like the fabled Samson, the new action star’s strength, it seems, is all in his tousled hair. “The Jake Gyllenhaal workout plan…starts with growing long, long hair,” the actor jokes with Entertainment Tonight Canada. “Very long…gorgeous greasy locks and then washing every day….Wash, shampoo, then condition. Washing works the biceps and then the triceps by conditioning. And vigorously rubbing all of your body with soap really defines the abs and the pectoral muscles. And if you do squats while you’re bathing — that’s it!” Jokes aside, the star also revealed a serious side when it came to getting in prime shape for the role. “It was really important for me to be able to do all the stunts and the things asked of me,” he says of his desire to make a believably stalwart hero. But now that the film is wrapped, the actor isn’t quite as hardcore about his workout routine. “I don’t have any muscles anymore now. It’s all just whittled down to little twigs,” he quips. “I walk around unable to move my arms.” Sounds like it’s time to start lathering up that shampoo! –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester

I wouldn’t mind if Jake were in every movie ever made. His eyes are so dreamy.

Whew – the religious folk need to relax and spend as much time reading a dictionary as a bible. A “fable” can be used in the context of an “epic” story, or a tale of an extraordinary or supernatural people or events. People talk about the “fabled” armies of Genghis Khan. It does not per se imply fiction or untruth. I am an observant and religious person. I believe in Sampson – and his fabled strength and courage. I mean, really. Relax. (PS – Jake is too big like this. To bulky. I like the lean look better for him.)

A fable is a story used to teach a lesson. Relax, bible thumpers.

No matter how cute he is, I am boycotting this movie. I am soooo sick of Hollywood whitewashing movies. I could have even handled Jake in the lead, all movies need a major star to ensure success nowadays, but instead of getting an Indian actress to play the princess they went and got a porcelin skinned Brit. But i bet they found plenty of Persians to play the villians and belly dancers. NO THANK YOU. How many opportunities do Indian actresses have to play a lead in Hollywood? I can count hand the number of Indian actors/actresses on tv/movies over the last 10 years. Yet they have a white leading man and woman in a movie about a persian hero. Joy.

and no, i am not indian. Just someone who notices when things are unjust

Love his sense of humor, makes him even hotter, if that’s possible!!

I can understand Treva’s concern regarding race when casting roles. But, let’s face it, the concern of producers is to make money. This movie looks ridiculous to me – not my type of movie at all. But Jake might just get me in the theatre. And that’s all they care about. It’s not a “serious” movie. It’s simply a typical American escapist flick.

Lynn – aren’t all movies “escapist?” We go to the theater to see the imaginations of actors, directors, and all of Hollywood come to life. We go to escape whatever is going on in our lives for a moment and look at someone else’s take on life, be it something from a true story, or something as totally unrealistic as the premise of this movie (which isn’t a bad thing!)

And Treva, I agree with you. Unfortunately, money is the main object in business; hopefully though, one day we will see a change in the way Hollywood operates – with nationalities being accurately represented. For now, I’m just going to enjoy the hard work of those who put out these flicks. If I have a problem with a movie, I won’t see it.

Personally, I think the movie is promoting a pretty good array of special effects. I’d be interested to see the movie for the CGI work in itself.

treva, get a grip, it’s just a movie for entertainment purposes. don’t you have more important things to stress out about and boycott?

Anna on

At Treva: Just to let you know Persia was in the middle east, so to let an Indian actress play the part would be as weird as to let a Brit play the part.
She does have the looks that would mach the discription of a Persian girl and no funny accent, so it’s good they got her to play the role. ( but that’s just my opinion)

ashl on

Treva,

I work with Persians and they don’t look like Indians at ALL. I agree they should use more realistic characters but make sure you know whom should be playing who.

Sheba on

I agree with some of the sentiments here. Treva, I do see your POV in Hollywood only considering ‘safe’ actors for their roles and I’m certainly sure there would have been many actresses ‘of colour’ to play Tamina just as well if not better than Gemma. This film is a popcorn flick, a fantasy, purely for entertainment for kids with a sprinkling of fun and romance for the adults.

Jake is the draw for this movie and he has acknowledge this through his body of work. Look at Rendition where the two romantic leads were Asian and he was very involved in getting that movie an audience. He cares very much about his projects and the ramifications of what is produced. He doesn’t deserve to be boycotted because of the Hollywood machine though I do understand your personal decision.

Treva, seriously? Persians are NOT Indians. Modern-day Persians are from Iran, and as it turns out, there aren’t very many Persian actresses. Your decision to boycott the film is silly, but I guess ignorance is bliss.

beatrice on

Treva and Mary,

Mary, there are plenty of Persian actresses although I do see your point, it is difficult to find an actress straight from Iran. You may probably know though, there are many Iranians living outside Iran and Hollywood knows already two, the actress in Crash and the actress in Body of Lies. Talented, pretty women.

Treva, I do understand your concerns. The movie is called “Prince of Persia” but the leads are white and as you said, I am sure they will find plenty of ethnic characters for the “bad” roles, perpetuating stereotypes. Although I have noticed you kept interchanging Indian and Persian, which is wrong. Are you by any chance confusing Persians (modern day Iranians) and Indian Farsi community?
