Janet Jackson Pays Tribute to ‘Genius’ Alexander McQueen on the Red Carpet

Landov

Long live McQueen! It’s been a month since venerable British designer Alexander McQueen tragically took his own life, but his design skills are still alive and well as stars like Janet Jackson don them on the red carpet. At last night’s premiere of Why Did I Get Married Too? at New York’s School of Visual Arts Theater, the singer-actress — who reprises her role as a psychotherapist — donned a dark navy Alexander McQueen ruffled jacket paired with harem pants and a power belt. Jackson spoke to PEOPLE about her adoration for and long-time relationship with the designer, calling him a “wonderful guy. Sweetheart.” She continued on, “[McQueen was the] very first fashion show I ever went to. He invited me to his show in the late 1990s in London. I’ve always been a fan of his.” The 43-year-old star went on to rave about McQueen’s talents, putting him in the highest echelon possible. “True genius, and I’m not using the word loosely at all,” she told PEOPLE. “To me, there are certain ones, you have your [Karl Lagerfeld at] Chanel, Givenchy, McQueen, Galliano, it’s those guys that fall right in that.” –reporting by Jeffrey Slonim

For both movies, the actress is accessorizing her costumes with Ferragamo bags — sporting a black Sofia bag in the Bounty Hunter and a brown Fiammetta bag in Just Go With It. And the actress has been known to select Ferragamo bags for her personal life as well, even auctioning off a signed purse from the line for charity. Scott Halleran/Getty

As if being a five-time Olympic medalist wasn’t inspiring enough, gymnast Nastia Liukin is seeking to further mentor young girls with an empowering and affordable sportswear collection for young girls ages 8-12. The Olympian has teamed with Warner Brothers Consumer Products and JCPenney to create “Supergirl by Nastia”, which will hit JCPenney stores and jcp.com just in time for back-to-school shopping on July 20 with prices ranging from $20-$30. The collection will include dresses, tunics, knit pants, signature Supergirl tees, dancewear, fashion leggings, shrug tops and more branded with the Supergirl S-Shield, a symbol of strength and leadership meant to unite young female athletes. “I am so proud to present to girls and moms the Supergirl by Nastia line, which I believe represents not only a fashionable and affordable option, but also communicates an important message of empowerment,” said Liukin. “The Supergirl S-Shield is a unique and iconic symbol that has inspired this collection. I believe it will do the same for girls who wear it.” And with a history of fashionable projects in the past– the gymnast partnered with Vanilla Sky Jeans for a juniors denim collection and was the face of Max Azria for spring 2009 — we can’t wait to see what Nastia has up her fashionable sleeve this time. Stay tuned for more details.

Do You Prefer Tim McGraw Hollywood Dapper or Country Cool?

Carmen Valdes/Photo Image Press; Charles LeClaire/

Tim McGraw may be as well known for his signature black leather cowboy hat as for his chart-topping country hits, but when he hit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last week, gone was any trace of his normally rugged on-stage style. Instead, the country crooner showed off his high-fashion taste, rocking a dashing navy pinstriped suit with a gray shirt and tie, and pulling off sleek black-framed glasses like a true sartorial pro. Sure, he may be taking on the big screen in successful acting turns like his role in The Blind Side, but what if the country singer is permanently trading in his bad-boy Nashville roots for this new clean-cut style? Makes you wonder what his always-stylish wife Faith Hill thinks of his fashion change-up. Tell us: What do you think of Tim’s new dapper style? Do you prefer him with his cowboy hat?David Yi
