Valerie Bertinelli’s Boston Marathon Prep? A Food-Filled Italian Vacation!

Charley Gallay/WireImage

Packing for a recent Italian getaway with her longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale, Valerie Bertinelli knew one travel essential she had to have — her scale! “Yes, I brought my Jenny Craig scale with me!” says Bertinelli, who famously lost 40 pounds on the weight loss system. “I wanted to keep an eye on [my weight]. I said to myself, ‘Eat, have fun–and move your body!’” She needn’t have worried. Even after eating (pasta daily and, yum, all those oysters!) and drinking (red wine) her way through Rome, Florence, and Venice earlier this month, the 49-year-old actress only put on 3.4 lbs. “I ate everything I wanted to and forgave myself,” she told PEOPLE at the Cedars-Sinai Sports Spectacular Women’s Luncheon featuring a Tory Burch spring collection fashion show on Tuesday, “and 3.4 lbs. is all I gained! I can take that off!” The trick? Walking. A whole lot of it. In fact, Vitale and Bertinelli, who is training for her first marathon on April 19, clocked in a whopping 85 miles over their 10-day vacation. Always wearing a Bodybugg device to keep track of her steps, Bertinelli says: “The smallest number of steps we took in a day was 11,000. We never caught a cab.”

Even so, the indulgent Italian sojourn “didn’t really prepare me for the marathon,” admits Bertinelli, who turns 50 just four days after the 26.2 mile run, so it’s back to the grind. With less than a month to go, Bertinelli says, “I know my body can do this. I ran 14 1/2 miles before I left for Italy, and wasn’t sore the next day. So I’m just worried about the emotional part. I can’t let my brain remind me that I’m almost 50, not an athlete, and have never done this before. I have to get all that craziness out of my brain!” While she’s shooting to complete the race in under five hours, Bertinelli reminds herself, “I just need to finish. There are so many people depending on me, but I feel their love and their ‘You go, girl’ attitude. I don’t want to let them down!”

Estelle and Rachel Roy Collaborate On New Jewelry Line

She may like her American boys, but it appears that British songstress Estelle loves American designers–in particular, Rachel Roy. The 30-year-old star has teamed up with the well-respected New York designer for a spring costume jewelry collection for her Rachel Rachel Roy label. “Working with Estelle was a true collaboration,” Roy told PEOPLE. “I love Estelle’s sense of style because she takes risks, and I think that to be a trendsetter you have to take as many risks as safe turns.” And the feeling is mutual. “What I love about Rachel is that her look is unpredictable,” Estelle told PEOPLE.  ”One day she’ll be in a cocktail dress and the next, she’ll be in flats and a little jacket.  No matter what she’s wearing, it always looks appropriate. Rachel has great style and I loved collaborating with her.” The new line–a mix of limited-edition rocker-chic rings, gold and amethyst glass stones, and feminine earrings–range from $30-$195. To score your own pieces, hit the nearest Macy’s store or shop online at RachelRoy.com.–David Yi

Molly Sims On Adapting Her Style From Coast to Coast

Credit: Sara Jaye Weiss/Startraks

Molly Sims knows a thing or two about fashion — and travel. The all-American beauty–who has transformed herself from model to actress, and now, to jewelry designer–prides herself on her ability to adapt her personal style to any city she travels to. “When I come to New York from L.A., I put on my black Helmut Lang leather pants with motorcycle boots,” she told PEOPLE at the launch of her latest batch of designs for Grayce by Molly Sims the Collection at N.Y.C’s Henri Bendel. “Then, I’m also your Uggs-and-long-Bohemian-dress [girl in LA].” Her new spring jewelry collection–beautiful statement necklaces and brightly colored oversized rings– are equally chameleon-like. Inspired by Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and 1920s art deco architecture, the pieces work as seamlessly with everyday casual wear as they would on a red carpet. The best part? “Everything is under $250!” she says. For more information on Grayce by Molly Sims the Collection, visit graycebymollysims.com on April 1 when it goes on sale.–David Yi

Justin Bieber Feels “No Competition” With Zac Efron’s Hair

MAXA/Landov

He might have hit superstardom as a YouTube sensation turned Tween dream–but if there’s one thing that Justin Bieber is known for as much as his music, it’s his perfectly shaggy do. But despite appearances, the singer tells T Magazine, he doesn’t have to work at it. “I’d love to be able to say it was complicated, but I’m just chilling,” he says. “My hair takes five minutes to do in the morning. I shower and as soon as I get out I just shake it and it just does that. For real.” That’s not to say that there isn’t a little friendly coif competition in the air. Probed about who would win going head-to-head against similarly well-groomed star (and originator of the boy bangs) Zac Efron, he brushes off the comparison: “I’ll let you decide. But all I’ll say is that it’s no competition.” Tell us: Who’s got better hair: Justin or Zac? –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester
