Nicole Richie Won’t Give Fashion Advice to Joel Madden: “It’s Better Not To Even Go There”

Credit: Bauer-Griffin

Nicole Richie may have once been a rabble-rousing reality-television star on FOX’s The Simple Life alongside pal Paris Hilton, but the recently engaged fashionista wants to make one thing clear: she’s transitioned into a serious fashion designer. “The Simple Life started when I was 19 [and my] self-image has changed so much since then,” she tells WWD. “[Building credibility in fashion] has been pretty organic in the sense that I’m finding out who I am as a woman and what I like and don’t like.” The star, whose jewelry line House of Harlow and clothing line Winter Kate are both named after her first-born daughter, explains that she’s always wanted to be a designer. “There wasn’t a day when I just woke and said, ‘I’m ready to do this,’” she says. “I knew in the back of my mind that this was something I wanted to do when I grew up.” Even when she’s not designing, the 28-year-old says she enjoys shopping and dressing up her own children off-duty. “Kids are so easy because everything’s comfortable,” she says. “Sparrow, has the cutest little baby booties, [and Harlow] likes ballet flats.” Just don’t expect Richie to pick out apparel for her new fiancé, Joel Madden. “[Men’s fashion] is such a different world and something I know nothing about. If I said ‘Vans,’ he’d probably be like, ‘No, no. It’s Nike.’ So, it’s better not to even to go there.”— David Yi

Kim Kardashian’s Dream Job? Sephora Salesgirl!

PA Photos/Landov

Kim Kardashian loves living her life in front of the camera as a successful reality star, but if she wasn’t living in front of the cameras, she already has an alternate career in mind. “I think my dream job would be to work at Sephora,” she tells PEOPLE at her fragrance launch at Tao Las Vegas over the weekend. “If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now I would be a makeup artist or work at Sephora.” The career would be fitting considering she’s often forced to get dolled up daily, between her show Keeping up with the Kardashians and her many red carpet appearances. “Beauty is a world that I love,” she said. “I really hope that I venture off into the world of beauty and, you know, start my own skin care line or my own hair care line. I’m really passionate about it.” However, those products wouldn’t be as personal to her as her new perfume is. The scent, she explained, is derived from her memories of vacations with her late father or the smell of her first apartment. “I pretty much just picked my favorite scents and all my memories,” she says of the eponymous fragrance. “I took all my favorite memories and put them in a bottle.” Buy Kim’s fragrance for yourself at — where else? — Sephora.com.

EXCLUSIVE: Avril Lavigne Takes Her Abbey Dawn Line to ‘Wonderland’

Courtesy Khol’s; Jason Kempin/FilmMagic

Upon learning that director Tim Burton was remaking Alice in Wonderland, Avril Lavigne was so inspired she created a special collection of her Abbey Dawn juniors line based off the new movie. To start, the singer headed to the Disney archives to get in the mood: “I went through binders of images from the film to get inspiration for the clothing,” says Lavigne. “We ended up using a lot of the floral prints, which were the flowers with the faces, and the verbiage [like] ‘Shrink me.’ It was kind of like anything and everything.” The star added screen-printed watches, Victorian ruffles, and florals on an array of shorts, tees, and hoodies. “My favorite is the white T-shirt with the rabbit stopwatch on it because it’s the iconic stopwatch,” she says. And this isn’t Lavigne’s only contribution to the flick: the singer also wrote the movie’s title song. “I was really inspired by the film and [so] I asked [Disney] ‘do you have a main song for the movie because I’d like to write it’. And they were like, ‘oh, we’ll talk to Tim,’ and he said ‘go ahead write it,’” recalls Avril. The song, which she will perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this month, will be a moody piano tune. Meanwhile, the limited-edition Abbey Dawn clothing collection will hit Kohl’s stores March 5, ranging in price from $24-$48. Want to Walk in Oprah’s Shoes? Bid Now to Buy Them!

Courtesy O, The Oprah Magazine

If you’ve always dreamed of walking in Oprah Winfrey’s shoes, now you can! The queen of daytime television will be auctioning off personal items from her own closet on eBay in hopes of raising funds for Oprah’s Leadership Academy of Girls, the all-girl school in South Africa that she founded. The talk show host, with the help of O Magazine’s creative director, Adam Glassman, recently cleaned house and chose 150 pieces from her closet ranging from accessories to shoes to donate toward the cause. One of the items will even be a jacket she wore to Cophenhagen as part of the Chicago delegation to win a bid for the 2016 Olympics. “In the past, I’ve gotten talked into a lot of trends,” she says in the magazine. “But I don’t have to be on anyone’s best-dressed list. I’m really just trying to become more of myself.” The auction begins on today and runs until March 11. Check out Oprah.com for the items and check out eBay to bid.

‘Real Housewife’ Ramona Singer Celebrates her Second HSN Jewelry Collection

Courtesy HSN; Jay Sullivan/Bravo

It’s shaping up to be a big week for New York Housewives star Ramona Singer. Not only is she returning to television for the third season of the popular Bravo show, but she’s also making a solo appearance Tuesday, March 2 on HSN to launch her second collection of estate jewels. “This has been a dream come true,” the reality star-turned-designer tells PEOPLE. “To create these things and to see how well they come out and [then] get the reaction from people is just so thrilling.” And after launching her debut line back in September, Ramona has become a hit on the TV shopping network. “People are in awe. They can’t believe the quality and look for the price,” says Singer. For her HSN follow-up, ranging in price from $200 to $550, she was inspired by the oversize earrings and blue rings worn by the late Princess Diana. “To me, that was so regal and beautiful,” she says. Other additions include a range of jade baubles and rose gold cuffs, but if she had to narrow it down to one must-have item, Singer recommends the $249 black-and-white swirl earrings: “They go with everything because black and white are so in — and I mean, they look like six figures!” Shop Singer’s complete collection exclusively at HSN.com and be sure to catch her live on HSN tomorrow, March 2, from 1 PM-3 PM EST. Tell us: What do you think of Singer’s new baubles? –Andrea DeSimone
