EXCLUSIVE Sara Rue: 30 Lbs. Down, 10 More to Go

After losing 30 lbs. in 12 weeks, actress Sara Rue is going for 10 more, she says. “The changing of your mind is often the hardest part,” says Rue, a spokesperson for Jenny Craig. “Now that I’ve conquered that, I’m ready for more!” Rue, 31, has struggled with her weight since she was a child. The red-headed actress, who starred in the TV show Eastwick, says she once lost a role due to her size. Determined to gain control of her weight, Rue joined the program in November and learned about how much to eat and healthy foods. She explains, “The key has been portion control, which has totally helped me not slip up, and has given me the necessary balance to feel good. I’m comfortable with this program, because it’s not a diet –- it’s a lifestyle change.” As a result, the pounds fell off — and she’s down to the last ten lbs of her Jenny Craig journey. Her reward for successful weigh-ins? A manicure. Rue enthuses, “Thanks to my 30-lb. weight loss, my nails have never looked better!” –Elaine Aradillas

She looks great! Good luck on the next 10.

Congratulations, good for her, and she deserves that manicure and I’m glad to hear her nails have never looked better, and I heard about the autopsy results about The Killer Whale Attack at SeaWorld and none of it surprises me!

I just adore Sara Rue, I couldn’t be happier for her. She is such a talented actress!! Keep up the good work Sara!

sarah on

i thought she already lost weight before, is this second time around?

Where can I buy that dress?! She looks fantastic!

Angel on

I have always liked her as an actress, and I think she looks great!

I wish celebrities would keep their weights to themselves. Every time they do an article, bragging about their recent weight loss and how they accomplished it, I just know that within a year or so, they will be back in People magazine apologizing for gaining it back.

They shouldn’t have to apologize for gaining weight nor should they be praised for losing it. Weight doesn’t make them who they are. Once they realize that, they just might have a chance at being happy.

Hear that…Kirstie Alley, Sara Rue, Kelly Osborne…..etc.

Rawr on

Hmm… let me check …

Yep!

I’d still bone her :-)

BIG SUPRISE.. As most men…you are thinking only with the little head!

David on

Sure, pay me $50,000 and I’d be able to lose 40lbs too. But it’ll be back. Just ask Kirstie Alley.

jay on

I thought she looked before.

2.5 pounds a week; not realistic weight loss! Once again giving “average” people false hopes.

Well, good for her – she looks great. But I remember when she lost weight before (not on Jenny Craig) and then she gained it back. I think Jenny Craig’s prepared meals are good for a quick fix, but it will be interesting to see how she does once she has to make her own meals and eat real-world foods. Look what happened to Kirstie Alley.

Bree on

I agree with those who think she’ll gain it back. Eating frozen meals is only going to cut it for awhile, and you will lose weight. She would have a better chance keeping it off if she learned how to make healthy food choices for herself (not pre-packaged), and she’ll need to exercise regularly. If you want to be healthier, try Spark People (do a web search), it’s free (really) and an excellent plan.

I remember when Sara Rue starred in the TV show “Less Than Perfect” from 2002-2006. She lost a lot of weight then too, but gained it back.

Kristen on

Good for her, but I like her either way, heavier or not. She’s a good actress, and a beautiful woman. I loved her guest role on The Big Bang Theory, in large part because she was a little thick but nobody ever mentioned it on the show, as if, SHOCKINGLY, it wasn’t actually a big deal and she could still be appealing girlfriend material! I’m happy for her though, because I myself have been trying to lose weight and I’ve only managed 20 pounds in 5 months despite doing a pretty good job of eating well and exercising frequently. I’ll take it though!

For real life solutions to weight loss weight watchers is way better. Once she goes off Jenny Craig it will all come back on.

Sara looks fantastic. I am sure she will do her very best to keep it off. She is a talented actress. Not everyone puts it back on again. I did and now I am working at getting it off for good!

I am thrilled for her, however a 2.5 week pound loss, even at her young age of 31, consistently is very very agressive and should not be characterized as “falling off”. Weight does not “fall off” for ANY woman unless you are dealing with an eating disorder or an unhealthy diet/exercise plan.

Sara has clearly been working very very hard, don’t diminish that work by categorizing it as any “falling off”. She should be commended for that.

The process is natural and should not be diminished. Love how she looked before and still love her. She looks lovely and healthy!!

If I had a personal trainer and all of the program food paid for me, I could lose all of my extra weight too! It amazes me when these celebrities say “It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.” Duh! For years, doctors have been telling us balanced meals, portion control and exercise. Say it with me…lifestyle change. Why is it that when Jenny says it, people act as if it’s a newsflash?

Terri on

I did Jenny Craig years ago, even then it was expensive, and yes I gained it back. Soon after I gave up my gallbladder, pretty much due to yo-yo dieting through the years. Sara has always been pretty to me (must be because we’re both redheads, LOL). The weight loss biz is BIG business as we know, but I really think they should get away from promoting celebs as spokespeople…most of us can not afford their programs, nor can we afford a personal trainer or even a gym membership, times are tough! The companies should use more “regular” people. Celebs do not influence me at all.

linda on

I’m so sick of women not loving themselves the way they are!
and I’m Really sick of that phoney idiot Valerie Bertinelli….she was Not a real friend to Makenzie Phillips, just read Mac’s book! Also Valerie gained weight, not that I care!

hhhh

Sara Rue sounds like she’d be a really sweet person, and she’s extremely funny! She’s never been fat, so it looks like Jenny Craig would find a spokesperson w/ more weight to take off although anybody who’s making lifestyle changes as she is deserves kudos and makes a great role model. She’s also young enough that kids and teens can identify with her, which will definitely help with childhood obesity.

wendy on

What is not realistic with 2.5lbs a week??
i lost like that on weight watchers, without even exercising, if i actually did it properly i could totally do that, but i am too lazy!! i think she has just been helped with a trainer , she looks fab, so why shouldn’t she show it off? I do agree that if she stops JC it will probably come back, but hey then she will work it out.

Melanie on

Great for her! I did the Jenny Craig diet 3 years ago and lost 20 lbs -and have managed to keep it off. The magic of it is that it teaches you what an acceptable portion should be. In a world where everything is supersized – it was a real eye opener for me.

Infamous on

She looks great! But I think she looks the same as before

Candis on

Wow that is great, congrats. I wish I could afford to buy that food and get paid from the company, personal trainer…. Most of us though live in the real world have jobs, kids and responsibilities and that doesnt involve paying 300-500 per month on food. Unless it is from the grocery store, and I agree with the other comment just keep it to yourself so I dont have to hear about you on Oprah crying about how you gained it all back.

Awesome job Sara! You look amazing! And yes, 2.5 lbs lost within a week is realistic and healthy. A doctor will even agree that a 3-5 weight loss in a week is healthy. Of course it depends on the size of the person. My friend lost 11 lbs the first week of Weight Watchers because he had cut the amount of food he was eating in half and started walking.

sandra on

how did you loose so much I have been on jenny Craig for 8 weeks and only lost 10 pounds please help me loose more

Kristen on

I have been on JC for almost 6 weeks and all I have lost is about 8 lbs. Sara Rue must really have an awesome trainer. I am getting a little discouraged with my slowwwwwwwwww weight loss. So, I am upping my gas and getting some metabolism booster involved now. I am happy for Sara though. I think she is a great actress.

James on

I don’t think Sara needs to lose any more weight. I think the 30 pounds she has already lost is more than enough.
