Madonna Dishes On Designing With Daughter Lourdes

So what was it like for Madonna to work together with her daughter Lourdes Leon (a.k.a. Lola) on Material Girl, their upcoming juniors’ clothing collection? Surprisingly collaborative. “As we are working, I see her more as a creative person, as an artist,” the proud mom told the Associated Press. “Then every once in a while, I remembered that she is my daughter.” The pop icon also revealed that the collection–which is debuting exclusively at Macy’s in August, just in time for back-to-school wardrobes–was actually the 13-year-old’s idea. “Lola has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes,” explained the original Material Girl. And Lourdes already has good taste, as Madonna laments, “My Christian Dior shoes will go missing, and then some fabulous bag or my skinny jeans–the only pair that fit me–are gone.”  But having grown-up around fashion’s brightest stars, including Madonna pals Stella McCartney and Dolce and Gabbana, Lourdes has shown an ever-growing interest in fashion design, working in the wardrobe department on Madonna’s last two tours. All the teenager’s aesthetic training has led to the line’s eclectic mix of patterns (cabbage roses, black and white stripes) and layerable “hard and soft elements,” like a tutu dress meant to be styled with studded combat boots  or a slouchy cropped sweatshirt paired with a floral mini. And don’t forget the accessories — shoes, necklaces, and, naturally, fingerless gloves–all  inspired by their mutual love of dance and music. Happily, though, these pieces will be attainable on a teenager’s allowance, with prices ranging from $12 to $40. As Madonna points out, “When I was 13-years-old, I couldn’t afford expensive clothing.” –Marissa Patlingrao Cooley

This woman is just plain scary now!

Isn’t it kind of scary that Madonna has jeans that fit her 13 year old daughter?

Hows it scary that Madonna has a 13yo daughter that fits in her jeans? I think thats pretty neat. I am in my 30’s and have a 15yo god daughter and we love the same clothes and can wear some of the same…nothing wrong with that.
I also think its great that she is letting her daughter do something productive, especially with all the privileges she has been raised with.
I’ve seen Lola and she is an incredibly stunning girl. I bet this will be a beautiful clothing line. Bonus: its affordable too.
Nothing ‘scary’ or ‘wrong’ with that.

Nothing new with the “tutu dress and combat boots/rocker edge” style; my twelve year old already wears that “girly-raw” style! People are always asking where she buys her outfits! Too bad I’m not rich and famous with connections to get my daughter a design deal! LOL! Kidding aside, at least Madonna and her daugher are doing something together. Good for them! Good luck, Lola! We look forward to seeing your collection.

Bottom Line…… A 50 year old woman and a 13 year old teen Should NOT be wearing the same clothes!!!!!

People Please!!!!! If you like it buy it if you don’t I’m sure neither Madonna or her daughter will miss you.

And Madonna SHOULD remember the child is a child and only 13 too.

I wonder how that must feel to be a sexpot to girls in the 80s but turn it around when you finally have children? It’s ok for others but not your own. Hmmmm…..

I think it’s great. What a wonderful experience – working with your mom on something you both enjoy. Kudos on keeping the prices reasonable…they could’ve gone a different route, more high-end, but didn’t. As far as sharing clothes…give them a break…C’mon, obviously it’s only certain items that would be approriate. Mothers and daughters have been doing this for ages.
