Oksana Baiul and Christian Cota Put Their Passion for Fashion on Ice

Courtesy Fashion Week Daily

Fashion Week may be in full swing, but that didn’t stop designer Christian Cota from taking a little time out from his busy schedule to hit the ice with Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul at New York City’s City Ice Pavilion. “When I was a kid I loved figure skating,” Cota tells The Daily. “But in Mexico they kind of push you toward hockey.” Despite a lack of figure-skating experience, Cota glided onto the ice like a seasoned pro, according to Oksana. “Christian is actually very athletic, and he’s very clean,” she said about the designer’s skating talent, which she likens to his refined design skills. “You can really tell that from his dresses. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s very fashionable.” The Olympic medalist even joined Cota for their skate date in one of his girly pink creations. “I always joked that [this dress] was a figure skating dress, but now that I’ve seen it, it has finally fulfilled its destiny,” he says. “I was saving it for the right moment, and it’s perfect with her hair color, her skin tone–everything.” And Oksana couldn’t have agreed more: “In this dress I feel very feminine. Everything is in the right place.” After seeing his design twirl on the ice, Christian even hints that he might think about designing for figure skaters on a more regular basis. “I’ve dressed ballerinas before, but this is the first time I’ve worked with a skater. It’s a great direction to take.” See the full story at fashionweekdaily.com.

Tim Gunn on Heidi Klum: “She Really Is Superwoman”

Peter Kramer/AP

Heidi Klum just a supermodel? Hardly. With four kids, two new maternity lines, and Project Runway hosting duties, it’s more like Superwoman Heidi Klum, says her Runway co-star Tim Gunn. “I don’t know how she does it. She really is Superwoman,” Gunn told PEOPLE at Wednesday’s Red Dress Awards in Manhattan. “I don’t have even one quarter of what she has on her plate, and I always feel like I’m a hair shy of a psychotic breakdown.” Did Klum, who gave birth to daughter Lou Sulola in October, “make it work” with her foray into maternity fashion? “Oh, Heidi always makes it work,” Gunn gushed. “But yes, she’s really infused fashion into maternity ware, and I’m crazy about what she’s doing. I think it’s wonderful.” Gunn, who is now filming the final episodes of Project Runway Season 7 at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, recently teamed up with Campbell Soup Company to help raise awareness about heart disease, the number-one killer of women. At Woman’s Day magazine’s Red Dress Awards, Gunn honored the winner of Campbell’s adDress Your Heart campaign. It’s an issue that’s close to his heart: Gunn’s own mother has heart disease. “She’s had a wonderful life and she’s been fighting this disease for a long time, and frankly, she’s getting tired,” he told PEOPLE. “She’s in the hospital now, so this is an issue that is part of my life and it means a great deal to me.”

Kelly Cutrone Won’t Work with Nobodies

In a new video with PEOPLE TV, Kelly Cutrone, the queen of fashion publicity and star of Bravo’s new hit show, Kell On Earth, explains why she refuses to work with no-name designers. “If I’m out on the street at Sixth Avenue and 40th Street looking for people coming up out of the subway and going ‘Hey, are you in the mood to go see a fashion show today?’ just ’cause nobody knows who this designer is, I don’t want to work for those designers.” It’s this exclusivity that the reality star, who says she’s limiting herself to eight shows a season, is known for. “I really don’t have any other skills besides being a publicist,” she admits. “[I'm] trying to keep it tight and right.” Watch more words of wisdom above.

No Fashion Week for Tina Fey: ‘I Feel Like I’d Get Busted’

Mario Testino/Vogue

March cover girl Tina Fey might tell Vogue that she’s “represent[ing] normalcy in some way.” But there is nothing ordinary about her incredible sense of humor and ability to be self-deprecating above all else, whether joking about being out of place at Fashion Week (“I get invited to fashion shows,” says Fey, “but I feel like I’d get busted if I went to them. People would be like, ‘Who you tryin’ to be?’”), or accepting the criticism for her much-maligned Zac Posen dress at this year’s Golden Globes. “Do you think George Clooney will hold a telethon for my dress?” she jokes. But she does explain that she’s figured out in general what works — and what doesn’t — in terms of dressing. “I am a fan of the deep V. These are the things I learned from my friends who are cutter/drapers: I have an hourglass figure; I do have a waist, but I have full hips and I have decent shoulders. So that V is good for me. Not good on me? Spaghetti straps. It looks like when you tie up a roast before you put it in the oven.” And lest we think that she’s dressing strictly for red carpet critics, she explains the age-old truth that women dress for each other. “I think women dress for other women to let them know what their deal is. Because if women were only dressing for men, there would be nothing but Victoria’s Secret. There would be no Dior.” It’s all a long way up from her favorite childhood outfit of a hand-me-down colonial costume. “It consisted of a bonnet,” says Fey, “and a burlap apron and a long skirt. And I would just wear it sometimes after school. As an outfit… It was the Bicentennial! People were excited!” Read more of Tina’s hilarious and candid interview at vogue.com.
