Shaun White's Hair Secrets Revealed!

02/19/2010 at 06:27 PM ET

Roger L. Wollenberg/Landov

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, 23, has wowed snowboarding fans—and millions who didn’t know they were snowboarding fans—with his daredevil double corks and other wild moves. But just as entrancing is White’s lush mane of natural red hair. How does he get it just that fabulous? “My secret is an awesome new product – called water,” White deadpans. “It’s pretty curly on its own. I just use the hotel shampoo and conditioner and wash it every other day, because otherwise it gets huge. Two days of snowboarding in a helmet helps — it looks better dirtier.” Right now, a friend trims his hair for free every two months. But the stylist does more thinning than shortening. “I feel I’ve lost something if I cut it short; but I need to take the weight off.” Though he has tried to brush off the nickname “Flying Tomato,” he has no plans to change his signature color. “If I did, I’d go black to make it Danzig-looking,” he says with a laugh, referring to the punk band. “Black hair looks OK with freckles.” –Lorenzo Benet

Awesome how he keeps it real.

And to the downers: Fun articles like this keeps life interesting so we don’t become too serious. If you really didn’t care, you would just skip over it & not post. Simple. By posting rude comments on here, you just want attention of your own.

No BS at all. My hubby has lush curly hair that most girls would envy. Like Shaun said, it actually looks better when it is a little dirty.

I am not a scientist, but it probably has something to do with NOT stripping all of the natural oils out of the hair, burning it with hot air and hot metal, and then covering it up with a bunch of chemicals.

Just saying

Someone just had to ASK him how he keeps his hair that way? Shaun’s answer was perfect!

What a great guy. So laid-back. Loved his Jimi Hendrix impression at the medal ceremony. There’s nothing fake about him.

The less you do to your hair the better. Congrats to Shaun on his Gold medal and all his success. Hope he stays humble and happy.
