Emily Blunt: Don’t Make Me Thinner

Courtesy LA Times Magazine

Though 26-year-old Emily Blunt looks like a modeling pro with her long, lean frame on the cover of this month’s Los Angeles Times Magazine, she says she would appreciate it if she looked more like herself in photos. “I told him [the airbrusher] not to make me thinner,” she says of another photo shoot. “I hate when your legs are three times the length they actually are. It’s unfair to represent an image of yourself if it’s not true. They’re gonna see what you look like on film anyway, so why try to cover all your wobbly bits in a photo?” The recently engaged (to The Office’s John Krasinski) star defends her weight from critics who still say she was forced to starve herself for the role in Devil Wears Prada.“I was definitely encouraged to lose weight–not because I was overweight but because I was playing a character who was edge-of-ill thin. She literally doesn’t eat. I couldn’t turn up with love handles, but it wasn’t like doughnuts were snatched out of my hand.” But these days, the grounded actress, who wore a stunning pink tulle and chiffon Dolce and Gabbana gown to the Golden Globes, says she’s used to criticism–especially when it comes to dressing on the red carpet.”I think if you go to the awards, you have to be willing to understand that some people are going to loathe your dress,” she says. “You have to allow yourself to be torn apart. It’s exciting to do something so out of the rhythm of your normal life.” Visit latimesmagazine.com to read more from Emily. – David Yi

She is an amazing role model for young women out there. The fact that she refuses to be airbrushed is so refreshing…now if only everyone could be more level-headed like Emily.

I adore Emily Blunt. She seems like one of the more grounded actresses in Hollywood. Also, she is incredibly talented. I wish her and John the best; they are a very cute couple.

[...] Emily Blunt wants you to see her “wobbly bits.” The Wolfman star recently came out against photo retouching, preferring instead to look more like her actual self. The actress, as it turns out, happens to have minimal wobbly bits. [People Style Watch] [...]

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN I HAVE SEEN NEXT TO ANGELINA JOLIE. SHE IS A WONDERFUL ACTRESS, ALSO.

SHE DOESN’T NEED MAKEUP. SHE IS GORGEOUS.

I APPLAUD HER DESIRE TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED AS SHE IS AND NOT AIRBRUSHED OR ANYTHING ELSE. SHE HAS ETHICS.

i appreciate her conviction to keep her image from being retouched, but the reality is the vast majority of the time, it’s out of her hands. i admit i’m a retoucher and won’t ever slim someone down unless told to (or unless i know that i will be told to). if it’s not the magazine telling us to, it is the photographer. i almost guarantee the retoucher she told to not slim her, had to do just that in the end.
