Anne Hathaway On Her “Weird Features” and Surprising Style Icons

Anne Hathaway looks as unequivocally gorgeous and radiant as ever on the March cover of InStyle—though she’s probably the only person out there who doesn’t see it: “I think I’ve got really weird features. I have very large features on a very small head,” she tells the magazine. “But, you know, I’m not going to beat myself up. It’s my face. I’m not very pretty. But that’s OK because I do know that I look like myself, and I think at the end of the day, as nice as pretty is, authenticity is more important.” The self-effacing actress continues: “If I don’t work out at all, I have too much curve and no tone—which is not OK. It’s about finding balance.” Hathaway strives for equilibrium in the way she dresses too, with her tomboy-by-day, glamazon-by-night approach: “In the evening it would never occur to me to go out in motorcycle boots like this,” she says, referring to the black Burberry pair she wore to her interview. “I love going out in high heels and dressing up and glamming it up, and having there be a distinction between what happened throughout the day and the evening.” As to where she finds style inspiration, the 27 year-old, who calls out Marc Jacobs as one of her “all-time favorite designers,” has a long list of Hollywood peers who demonstrate “innovation and originality,” including Tilda Swinton, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Selma Blair, and Natalie Portman, and says: “I like people who are true to themselves.” The March issue of InStyle hits stands this Friday, and for more on Anne in the meantime, visit instyle.com. – Emily Hsieh

I’d like to see the people who are leaving comments that she’s not pretty. She’s obviously better looking than a lot of people. Who cares what her intentions are when she made those comments. Its better for young people to see that even celebs have those views of themselves, rather than assume they are all “perfect” and know it too.

Anne is not only beautiful but elegant. If we all were blessed like her. :)

Anne Hathaway has a totally unique beauty like Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts…many “pretty” girls in the movies are interchangeable.

I feel like she is saying this only to look good…like she wants to appear humble, but maybe she really does feel this way. Either way God makes us all unique and no matter what to Him we are beautiful. Everyone has a different idea of what Beauty is to them and some people will think she is pretty and some wont and thats ok. God made you who you are Anne and thats perfect enough for Him!

Those of you who don’t buy it aren’t photographers. Two of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever known were certain they were unattractive. Here’s what all girls need to know; the essence of beauty is balance. Around the globe and at every age, the more balanced a face is the more it pleases us. And her face is beautifully balanced. If she had small eyes and a large mouth, or large eyes and a tiny mouth, not so pretty. I was blessed with small eyes, a large nose and a small mouth. But the eyes sparkle and my smile is real, so even with the imbalance, I have my moments. :D&-=

I am appalled at the comments on this post….she is beautiful–maybe a bit insecure–but I would love to see what these people who have such negative comments look like at their very best and very worst. Shame on you all!

Well, at least she admits it–which is more than you can say about Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz. Still, can’t help but think that Anne protests too much. How many other stars run around issuing statements that no, they’re not really as beautiful and handsome as all that.
