Victoria Beckham On Being Posh: "I'm Not a Supermodel"

Ellen von Unwerth for GLAMOUR

Victoria Beckham is rarely snapped without her super-high heels and oversize shades, but, the star reveals, her “Posh” persona is hardly an accurate portrayal of her. “I love fashion, and that’s how I express myself,” Victoria tells Glamour in their March issue. “When I dress in a certain way and do my hair and makeup in a certain way, it’s not to get attention. I’m not a supermodel. I make the best of what I’ve got. I work out to look the best that I can, but I’m no Gisele.” In fact, Victoria even cops to suffering for her love of fashion, just like the rest of us. Of her signature stilettos, the 35 year-old admits, “Absolutely they hurt. I’m not going to lie. But no pain, no gain, as they say. I don’t mind. I will suffer. I don’t wear heels every day, but when I’m out, that’s how I feel confident.” Following the success of her star-loved line of dresses, Victoria is getting back into the denim game with the spring relaunch of her jeans collection. “I’m such a perfectionist,” she explains of taking a few seasons off from denim design. “I’ve worked really hard [with my team] to get it right.” And this time around, it was all about the silhouette: “Long, slim legs. Really good design. I’m not saying that you’ve got to be a stick to wear them. You can be all different shapes and sizes.” Pick up Glamour‘s March issue, on newsstands February 9, or visit to hear more from Victoria.–Andrea DeSimone and David Yi

I really like the way she comes across…I find her very likable.

Victoria Beckham did a very, very, very smart thing: She started SMILING on American Idol. Very smart.

Smiling on American Idol was the single best thing she could have done for her American Career.

Americans cannot connect to someone who doesn’t smile, and she almost ruined her career here by not smiling. But once she started smiling on American Idol, people started connecting to her, and she seemed likeable for once.

Everyone says how lucky she is to have David as a husband but I think he is equally as fortunate to have her for a wife. I just read another aritcle on her and 99% of the comments were positive. I think she really does have/do it all. She sounds like a great mom, great wife and a great business woman. You never hear of her losing her temper and being mean or rude to ppl and she said her kids are taught manners and even have their our personalized stationary to write their Thank You’s. Many woman could learn a thing or 2 from her. (I’m talking to you Brittney & Kate G.)

I agree that Victoria saved her career here in the USA by her smiling appearances on American Idol where she started to show her personality a bit. (Though she still needs to let her hair down more, literally, a bit more natural would do her well)

For some crazy reason, she almost ruined her chances here in the USA by acting like a stone cold mannequin stick figure all the time. Maybe that goes over well in Iceland, but not here.

I love her. I think her style is amazing. I agree that being on American Idol is one of the best things she could have done. She seems very sweet–I just love listening to her. I think she should have replaced Paula—it makes ALOT more sense than Ellen.
Can’t wait to see the mag

I love Victoria. When she was on American Idol, you definitely got to see the funny, laid back side of her.

I agree. Her presence on Idol has been an unexpected surprise. I never really paid much attention to her but really enjoyed her and she is very beautiful and was great with the contestants and did not take Simon too seriously! Really cool and has an amazing style.

She’s seems nice enough, but I think she’s bought into the idea, like most other people, that beautiful can only be really thin and tall with long legs.

Julie on

She was also very approachable on Project Runway, and the regular judges had nothing but great things to say about her. She makes it pretty clear she only looks diva but doesn’t act diva.

I have a cat named Posh and like her namesake, she is very adorable.

I love her hair dark and I love her style. She is a refreshing addition to American Idol…

I remember her in the spice girls and she always had a good eye for fashion she does look beautiful and seems like a very nice person i wish her the best

I love Victoria. She seems like the kind of person you would want to be your best friend. She seems very down to earth and not at all snotty, despite her high-fashion, serious appearance. Love her! And I agree she should have replaced Paula instead of Ellen.

I totally agree with you Jennifer, It is about time that she smiled. She can have all the fashion the money the hunk and kids….but that mug she was wearing for so many years was doing her know good.
She needs to smile, and I hope to see more of that from her.

She does seem like a genuinely nice person- she follows her husband around for his job and manages to take care of 3 kids at the same time. Somebody with four guys in the family should be able to wear heels and express herself through fashion as much as possible because that’s about as girly as her life can get!

Wow people. How naive. She is a hollywood, self indulgent, look at me type. There is nothing normal about any of these people, ever.

I agree with you, Mary. Nothing likable about her at all. So many women are a bunch of celebrity-worshipping morons that look up to superficial women; they need to get a life.

The only thing I can defend about Ms. Beckham is that she doesn’t have to “smile” just because everyone thinks she should. I don’t go around smiling, but still have plenty of people around me anyway.

Stunning cover, and photos, i will completely ignore the haterz because you are pathetic!!

To me Beckham is a true contemporary Style icon we have today, always doing it her own way, no matter what the media or hateful morons say about her, her looks, style, life choices, she does it her own way. Never afraid to take a fashion risk, or go through different looks. Clearly a strong woman with a thick skin, and a great businness acumen.

Will buy this magazine for the fact she is on the cover!

I have a heck of a lot of respect for Victoria. I love her smile and she definitely has lots of personality! I think they should have replaced Paula with Victoria because she knows a thing or two about the music business. I’m not saying Ellen isn’t great, but Victoria would have been a better fit.

I definitely love it when Victoria rubs the fact that Simon failed to sign them on to his label in his face every so often. I love seeing Simon look uncomfortable!

mizzie on

She says it all the time, she DOES smile but they never print those photos of her! It’s a better story to say she’s a sour, moody cow. But look at her on Ugly Betty as an example, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and that’s great!

I’ve always been a (the) greatest fan of Victoria Beckham, I think that she is just misunderstood. People don’t know how to interact with her because she is always so stylist and smart, I strive to be like her. I love her loads and her style.

jenn on

i think she’s a lovely person. in her reality special that she filmed when they first moved to the US, she was extremely funny & came across as exceptionally likeable – she even got drunk with a bunch of high society ladies and made a fool of herself. she doesn’t take herself too seriously at all, and i think she does realize how lucky she is to have everything – even her husband! is she a bit indulgent? sure. but wouldn’t we all be if we had that kind of money?
