Jessica Simpson on Her Soon-to-Launch Denim Line: “A Girl’s Booty Needs To Look Good”

Courtesy Camuto Group

In addition to her successful collections of shoes and handbags (not to mention jewelry, coats, swimwear, dresses, luggage and fragrances!), Jessica Simpson announces that she is expanding her fashion empire to include jeans. Set to hit roughly 1,000 department stores and jessicasimpsoncollection.com in July, the Jessica Simpson Jeanswear line will include denim jeans, jackets and skirts, reports WWD. According to the 29-year-old star, jeans were a natural progression: “Because I live in denim, the fit was the most important,” Simpson tells the publication. “A girl’s booty needs to look good. I was inspired to create a great denim line that complements the entire Jessica Simpson lifestyle brand –- a jean that becomes a girl’s best friend, that everyday go-to pair.” This latest addition to the Jessica Simpson Collection will be produced by the Camuto Group, who is also responsible for the preexisting licensed products that bear her name, in partnership with Jones Apparel Group, Inc, the company behind such brands as DKNY Jeans. But what about the jeans themselves? The new line will include everything from basic boot-cuts to flares, straight- and skinny-leg and more trendy legging styles. To cap off the range, Simpson has also created a collection of separates, like lace-trimmed blouses, oversized cardigans, boyfriend blazers and fake fur vests. Tops and jackets will retail between $29 and $79, while jeans will start at $49. Check back for more details. Tell us: Will you buy Jessica Simpson’s jeans?–Andrea DeSimone

Johnny Depp Heads Up GQ’s Picks For Most Stylish Guys On The Planet

PatrickDeMarchelier/GQ

Johnny Depp appears smiling, tattooed, and bare-chested on the cover of February’s GQ, and even unclothed, makes the magazine’s list of the 25 most stylish men in the world for 2010. In the accompanying article, Barney’s creative director Simon Doonan sums up why, explaining, “Johnny Depp’s a unicorn—a really glamorous, one-of-a-kind eccentric. He wears great man jewelry. He doesn’t shy away from color. He’s always peeking through his amazing hair. It doesn’t matter if Johnny Depp’s lying in a ditch—he’s always going to look incredible.” Despite their completely divergent aesthetics, fellow Brits Robert Pattinson, Russell Brand, and David Beckham all share the style honors, along with Brad Pitt, Jay-Z and Clint Eastwood, who received a special accolade as “Hall of Famer.” The February issue of GQ hits newsstands nationwide on January 26, but in the meantime, head to gq.com for more and vote for your pick for most stylish guy. ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’ Patti Stanger Set Herself Up with the Perfect Engagement Ring!

Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage; Byron Purvis/AdMedia

Though she plays cupid for a living, Patti Stanger of Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker is off the market herself. In May, the reality star got engaged to her real estate executive boyfriend Andy Friedman – but not without the perfect sparkler. “It’s four carats,” Stanger, tells PEOPLE. “It’s a heart shaped diamond. It’s in a white-gold setting — not a platinum, believe it or not — because platinum gets tarnished.” Fans of her show, which returns for its third season tonight, know the 48 year-old is quick to voice her opinions, which also extended to finding the ideal rock. “I always said, ‘Nobody ever had a heart-[shaped] ring,’” she declares. “And I said if I ever get a diamond ring, I want it to be heart [shaped]. So he was cute and he remembered it and copied a picture of it –- and he went to his friend who’s a designer. He designed the ring from scratch. He spent four months designing it.” Stanger continues: “My fiancé did major research,” she says. “Most people go platinum but there’s a lot of upkeep [with platinum]. And it’s a non-conflict stone from Israel. It’s a really high quality stone. He really did the right thing by me. My dad was a jeweler and the whole blood diamond thing really upset me.” -Brian Orloff

It’s On For TV Personality Alexa Chung As Madewell’s New Celeb Designer

Courtesy Madewell

It’s been an eventful few weeks for British-born TV personality Alexa Chung: first, her MTV show It’s On With Alexa Chung was canceled, and now, the 26 year-old former model is rebounding as a fashion designer, with a just-announced partnership with clothing chain Madewell. The trendsetting star, known for her rock-inspired, chicly tossed-together aesthetic, tells WWD the collection will consist of “things you wouldn’t mind getting dirty in and things that I actually wear.” Chung explains, “I was being offered so many collaborations for a long time, but I held off. I thought it would be quite a ‘sellout’ thing to do. But Madewell had a more organic approach. They seemed really interested in my ideas and it’s a brand that I really admire. Hopefully, the authenticity of this collaboration will be obvious.” The range, hitting stores and madewell1937.com in August, consists of roughly 20 pieces, including high-waisted skinny jeans, lace-trimmed wool jackets, polka dot tea dresses, and tees adorned with Chung’s own photographs and illustrations. Exact prices for the Alexa Chung for Madewell collection have yet to be announced, though they will be in sync with the label’s current lineup, with jeans going for under $100 and t-shirts starting at $14. Sarah Jessica Parker Dishes On Her New Gig as Fashion Exec at Halston

James Devaney/WireImage

More details have emerged about Sarah Jessica Parker’s newly cemented role at storied American fashion label Halston. The actress will not only weigh in on the aesthetic of the collections as its chief creative officer, but the balance sheets too, as she was also named president and given an equity stake in the company. Parker tells WWD, “I think this is a brand new kind of business model, and it illustrates how serious I am about this position. I think it’s wonderful to feel invested in something.” The risk-taking 44 year-old adds, “I tend not to just endorse something. I like feeling the stakes.” Being a film star isn’t the usual trajectory for running a clothing line, as she’s the first to admit: “I know I come to the company in a rather unorthodox way but I’m not the first to be president of a company without the traditional background,” Parker says. “Others have been successful in those endeavors and I do so hope I can be as well.” As for what she brings to the table, the star cites, “good manners, a point of view that is inspiring, that is hopefully smart, and an incredible passion and excitement and enthusiasm, as well as some experience of what I know about women, that having been pretty much the focus of my role in ‘Sex and the City.’” For more on Parker’s role at Halston, see wwd.com. -Emily Hsieh

Meryl Streep’s Surprising Dress Designer: ‘Project Runway’ Alum Chris March!

Dressing a Golden Globes winner is nothing short of a dream come true for any budding designer. And, Sunday night, that dream became a reality for Project Runway‘s season four alum and fan favorite Chris March as Meryl Streep took the stage in his design! The designer, who met the actress through her hair and makeup team, was called about a month ago to work on a design for Meryl’s double-nomination at the Globes. “I wanted to faint!” Chris tells PEOPLE about receiving the call. “I have always wanted to design something for someone like that, and it was a great and amazing opportunity.” Soon thereafter, Chris met with Meryl to discuss his vision. “I liked the idea of putting a belt on an evening gown–I think it gives [a gown] a modern twist. I sketched it out quickly and she really liked it,” Chris says. And while Meryl might be one of the biggest stars in Tinseltown, Chris says meeting her was anything but intimidating. “She is the sweetest person you can imagine. She’s very friendly and welcoming and I wasn’t nervous at all.” After turning out Meryl’s dress in under a month, all the hard work paid off when Chris watched the Julie & Julia star take the stage to receive her Golden Globe for best leading actress. “I almost had a heart attack when Colin Farrell read her name. It was very exciting to see her come up on stage wearing a dress that I made with my own two hands,” says Chris. “I thought it made her look tall and thin and comfortable and confident. It looked great!” Chris’s other favorites of the night included Marion Cotillard in her emerald Dior and Drew Barrymore in a delicate Atelier Versace. But no one stunned him like Cher. “She looked like she was about 20 years-old! She looked amazing! And, she wore something a little wow and interesting,” says Chris. Though the designer remains tight-lipped on whether Meryl will continue to wear his designs during awards season, he says he wouldn’t mind dressing Lady Gaga or Christina Aguilera too. Now that’s something we’d love to see! Tell us: What do you think of Meryl Streep’s dress?–Andrea DeSimone
