Christina Hendricks and Her Husband Defend Her Controversial Golden Globes Dress

Following the heated debate over Christina Hendricks’ choice of a champagne ruffled gown by Project Runway alum Christian Siriano at the Golden Globes, the Mad Men star’s husband, Geoffrey Arend, is fighting back. At a SAG awards after party, Arend stopped to defend his wife to PEOPLE. “I was just upset about the whole Golden Globes dress thing. I thought she looked so gorgeous. And that New York Times blogger saying that… It’s so ridiculous,” he said, referring to the paper’s fashion critic, Cathy Horyn offering the critique “You don’t put a big girl in a big dress. That’s rule number one”. Arend contines, “What was nice was seeing the entire internet come after that blogger. That was really cool. It was the first time I saw just a solid block of ‘You’re crazy! What’s wrong with you? You should be ashamed of yourself!’ [in the comments.] And honestly, the Grey Lady should be ashamed of themselves to print a picture like that, that they widened!” In an update to her column, Horyn acknowledged that the original photo used in her post was accidentally distorted: “The photo was slightly distorted inadvertently due to an error during routine processing. The photograph has been replaced,” she wrote. For her part, Hendricks is standing by her Siriano gown: “I loved it! I thought I looked gorgeous!” she told PEOPLE. We agree—as does her proud husband, who gushes, “Honestly, she’s the greatest woman I know. She’s the most beautiful woman I know. She’s the most talented woman I know. It’s like there’s not enough adjectives that could express or superlatives that could express how wonderful she is.” –reporting by Jessica Wedemeyer

I’m insulted by the comment that Christina Hendricks is a “big girl”. How dare someone criticize someone for their size (What size is she anyway, size 4 or 6?). Where did these people get their license to degrade women for their looks. Imagine how women who really struggle with their weight feel. Christina appears to be a beautiful and well-porportioned woman. The women who look at her and long to be her size are also victims of these type of comments. HOW DARE THEY….

Her husband better say that!! She’s bringing home the ” Bacon!”

Okay dress…a bit much on the boobs being pressed.

As a woman who is not a size 2 or even a size 8, I am considered a big girl at a size 12, and I am fine with that. Seeing TV stars like Christina Hendricks is a breath of fresh air, I am sick of seeing only stick figures on TV. She is beautiful and her husband is a lucky lucky man! Don’t change Christina!

Her boobs are WAY too big…..this was the wrong dress and the wrong color. She looks like a cartoon character.

Ok I love her husband!!! What a great guy. I also thought she looked beautiful. I am built very much like her. I am busty and curvy…you know like a woman SHOULD be. I don’t wear a size 2 nor would I want to, I don’t look like an emiaciated 10 yr old boy, and again, nor would I want to. I look like her, and I think we are both beautiful and everything a real woman should be.

Just me on

She looked absolutely wonderful!!

The NYT got it right. Right girl, wrong dress.

That’s so great for her husband to stand up for her like that! I don’t think she’s a “large girl” at all, she simply has big breasts. I think she looked lovely in the gown, she’s a very pretty woman.

Why doesn’t a big girl admit it when shes a bit plus sized? Sad.

She was my pick for Best Dressed of the night. That color looked fantastic with her skin tone and the material made it look like she was enveloped in a creamy peachy cloud. She is a beautiful, gorgeous woman and that blogger should be ashamed. What a wonderful (lucky) husband she has!
