Emily Blunt's Golden Globe Dress Dilemma: Safe or Brave?

01/17/2010 at 01:35 PM ET

Emily Blunt may be a buttoned-up Queen Victoria on screen, but she is a true Hollywood siren when she hits the red carpet, as evidenced by her glamorous appearance at yesterday’s BAFTA/LA Awards Season Tea Party. Clad in a sexy cobalt blue Carolina Herrera sheath, Blunt dished to PEOPLE on her Golden Globe Awards plans, including with a luxurious start to her day. “I’m going to lie in and have a long lie, and I’m going to stay in bed until about twelve. I like it for people to come over early, like hair and makeup, and just start early. And lots of coffee, lots of croissants. That kind of thing.” But just because she knows how her day is going to start, doesn’t mean she knows exactly which gown she’ll be wearing. She teases, “It’s a toss-up right now. I’m going to surprise you.” As for how she decides between her two options (“a brave one and a safe one”), she explains “I think you try it on, you ask different opinions, people that you trust. It also depends if I’m interesting and brave or not that day.” One person in her life who won’t tell her what to wear is her fiancé John Krasinski, whom she says is “very good. He always lets me have my own [opinion].” We’re sure both options will look amazing! Make sure to check back on PEOPLE.com starting at 6 pm tonight for all the Golden Globe Awards coverage, including a live chat. –reporting by Scott Huver

70,000 people have died in Haiti’s earthquake and she can’t decide on a dress for the Golden Globes. Who cares?

ddd on

well you obviously care, ann. why else would you be on this site? dumb*a*s*s

Carol Hallas on

ddd, that was awesome. i am laughing out loud.

kira on

get off the site then

mia on

hahaha…that comment to ann is priceless!! So very true!!

ssssssss on

ann, it’s her job. we all continue with our jobs when tragedy strikes.

je on

very true ddd….

@Ann: This was a snippet of her whole day, I highly doubt Emily was thinking about her dress every waking moment. Everyone is thinking about Haiti, we’re not forgetting because of the Globes. A little distraction in times of tragedy keeps us sane.

If you’re not watching the Globes, they’re keeping Haiti in the light by wearing ribbons & talking about where to go to donate.

JBP on

Ann, what does it feel like to have your a$$ handed to you on a plate?

70,000 people died in haiti and ann is reading people article, that truly is priceless, your know better than the girl you made a comment about. so get off your high horse and your so called morals and and go help the haitians

Lola on

I agree with you Ann. She changes her dresses like she changes her fiances it seems. Who cares.

tp on

Lola…they have already called Ann out and you jump in with her? Obviously you care or you wouldn’t be reading the article on People! If you care anything about the people in Haiti, maybe you and Ann shouldn’t wear make up, shower, eat, or think about what you are wearing tomorrow.

well said tp

Can someone please tell me what the Golden Globes dress preparation has to do with Haiti? Just because people are carrying on with their lives does not mean that the ongoing earthquake tragedy is not heavy on their hearts. It’s so odd that picking out a dress is being confused with not caring about the people of Haiti. Is everyone clear on this now? My goodnes … you silly people!

Manda on

SSSSSSS…. You said it best! I agree that if people are asking “who cares” it’s kind of an oxymoron because they cared enough to read the article.

Ann, Haiti was the poorest country in the Americas before the earthquake, why are you only concerned now? Why weren’t you already there?

Sandra Bullock donated a million dollars of her own money towards this tragedy. On Friday, George Clooney is running a telethon so that everyone, celebs and non-celebs, can help. Haiti has been mentioned many times during the broadcast. The Golden Globes were going to go on, and people are getting snippy because a lovely young lady can’t decide what to wear to a big event in her life. Honestly people, the anger here sometimes is so misquided. If you don’t want to read about celebs, don’t come to people.com. If you want to donate to the Haitians, please do so. But for crying out loud, get off your pedestals and let people live their lives.

Sounds like some people are a little menopausal. Maybe we should all have a chocolate and just relax.

I think Emily blue dress she’s wearing isnt all that cute and maybe she does need to take all day just to find a cutier dress :-)

Well, if it makes you feel any better “Ann!” it looks like Julia Roberts didn’t wash her hair for a few days to show her empathy! LOLOLOL!

Jorja on

Can’t anybody spell anymore???

Mbook on

Why do people insist on bringing the Haiti earthquake into every discussion? What does that have to do with ANYTHING? Man, you’ve completely blown our minds with your sense of perspective, I can’t believe I never realized that this stuff is trivial. Except, hm, it seems like if you actually didn’t care about anything that’s not the Haiti earthquake you wouldn’t be reading all these stories about things that aren’t the Haiti earthquake. You’ve been found out.

I dunno, but BLUNT made a HUGE MISTAKE by getting veneers. Totally ruined her face!

Just for some perspective: Risking disease and violence to treat earthquake victims in Haiti is “brave”. Fighting wildfires in California is “brave”. Serving your country in Afghanistan is “brave”. Wearing a dress to an awards ceremony that might reveal too much skin to a nation already oversaturated with nudity while fawning sycophants tell you how beautiful you look and listening to other fawning sycophants gush about each other’s second-rate ripoffs of real art, is not “brave”. Must we water down and obscure the meaning of every word in the English language to the point where it becomes functionally unusable?

Seriously, if this is the biggest problem a person faces in their life, she ought to get down on her knees every night and thank God she doesn’t have to hold down a real job.
