Robin Wright's New Role: The Face of Gerard Darel

01/15/2010 at 04:00 PM ET

Sometimes starting over means going back where you’ve been. For Robin Wright, that means modeling. After weeks of internet speculation and teasers, Wright debuted this week as the latest and surprising new face of French leather goods manufacturer Gerard Darel. Demonstrating her self-proclaimed “new beginning,” the ad shows the Private Lives of Pippa Lee actress in an unusually intimate, deeply effecting portrait. With her divorce after 13 years of marriage to actor Sean Penn proceeding, Wright stepped forward in November, and the result is this behind-the-scenes clip, capturing her session with celebrated photographer Peter Lindbergh. Following actress Mamie Gummer, singer Charlotte Gainsbourg and supermodel Stephanie Seymour as faces for Gerard Darel, Wright’s campaign for the firm’s Spring-Summer 2010 line was shot in New York, according to French newspaper Le Figaro’s Madame. “Her selection,” the paper resolves, “shows perfect timing in view of the news involving the actress’ personal life.”–Peter Mikelbank

Robin Wright is beautiful.

jessica on

What is the name of the song/singer playing during the video?

Jon on

Loved the video, I wish Robin Wright the best with her new job!

Trish on

I think Robin Wright is terrific. So happy for her new life.

Melodie on

She is stunningly beautiful and I applaud the steps she is taking on her NEW journey; however, there is saddness in her eyes. As if a part of her is still mourning the demise of her long marriage (which is understandable). May life bring her newfound joy and happiness!

Jane on

Love the song. Can anyone tell me the title or who sings it?

Jane on

Love the song! Can anyone provide the title or name of singer?

Julie on

Robin Wright is beautiful and ‘real’. Love the song also. Who’s the singer?

Jarod on

Well she was not a good actor why not try to make money now that her husband isn’t supporting her.

~Sher~ on

~I met Robin several years ago at a Santa Barbara Fan Club Dinner..she is even more beautiful now..both inside & out~

~Sean Penn was a FOOL..I wish Robin much happiness & success in all areas of her life..specially during this “new journey”~

WhitneyD on

Jarod – Honestly? You posted just to put her down?

IMO Robin’s a wonderful actress, and a beautiful woman. She does seem sad in parts of this video (as well as full of joy), and I wish her the best in her new start.

(But yes, what’s the song?)

Ani on

THE SONG, THE SONG!!! What is it and who sings it PLEASE?!

Judy on

I wish Robin all the best too. Must have been hard with Sean Penn all those years. She is beautiful but too bad she wasn’t smiling more in the video. She looks even better smiling.

marie on

She looks great.I love that song.. does anyone know the name of it?

Still Life in Southeast Asia on

She is such a strong and beautiful woman. Sean Pean was not financially supporting her all the years she was not working as Jarod seems to imply in his previous comment. She took time off as an actress to raise her children.

I’m eager to see all of her creative projects now that her children are older and she has opened a new chapter in her life.

sg on

did anyone figure out the song?

The song is called “El Cristo del Perdón” (The Christ of Forgiveness), by Klaus & Kinski, a duo from Murcia, Spain. They have an official MySpace page; look under the Klaus and Kinski URL.

Richie on

I remember when she used to be on the soap “Santa Barbara”

eden on

Love her. I wish she would grow her hair longer and a blonder ala the kelli capwell days. ahhh the memories!!!

linda on

So glad she is done with that loser pig Sean! She can do MUCH better! She is beautiful and a kind soul…Sean is a waste of space!

That Jarrod guy is crazy…Robin Wright is one of the best female actresses in the film business,I just wish I could see her in more movie’s,she’s incredibly talented! And as for her beauty,I live near where her family had a home in the bay area and would see her at the Grocery store sometimes, she is even more beautiful in person. I wish her all the best.

Are you for real? Robin is one of the finest actors working today in the cinema and a gorgeously beautiful woman. I am sure that the divorce from her partner of over 20 years must be devastating and the sadness is quite understandable. As for her husband supporting her – Robin comes from a wealthy family and has always worked so I doubt that she will be depending on Mr. Penn’s generousity.

Robin Wright is an extraordinary actor. She is vastly respected by her colleagues for her film choices, the depth and scope of her talent and for her resilience. She compromised many years of her professional career for a marriage to self-proclaimed very difficult, very complex individual. And while that was her choice, she was able to say “I’ve had enough”. Like Ellen Barkin, another great actor, she was able to break free of a dominant and emotionally controlling husband. Good luck to Robin in all that she does. (and please, nobody else take the bait from the ass-clown who trolls for reactions to his negative nonsense.)

Janice on

I think she looks beautiful. And VERY real. What I see in her face and her eyes are the uncertainty of “starting over” that many of us, women AND men, have gone through. You don’t have anything to prove, Robin–you are fantastic!

Good for her. Life goes on after divorce. She looks great.

Is it my imagination or does she closely resemble Chelsea Handler of Chelsea Late Night TV show? I’d like to see a side by side pic. She has great facial bone structure but her personality is very bland. She’s never been very animated. Her only memorable film to me is ‘Princess Bride’.

Maritza on

Robin Wright is a great actress, I’ve been watching her ever since she acted in the soap Santa Barbara. She does not look like Chelsea Lately at all, except for the blonde hair. I hope she finds the man of her dreams, she deserves to be happy.

Trish on

Jarod,

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I must say I don’t agree. Robin Wright had a promising career when she married Penn who clearly held her back and she ended up being the primary care giver. I doubt she regrets having been home with her children, but I am sure she is pleasantly surprised with the recent offers coming her way. We will be seeing more of her. She has done great diverse work in film: The Pledge, White Oleander, State of Play, Unbreakable, Moll Flanders, Forrest Gump, Message in a Bottle, The Princess Bride……

I’ve always thought she was a very attractive person, compelling and real. And a very good actress too.

Robin Wright heavy eye makeup in this shoot makes her look so much older. She is one of those classical beauties that doesn’t need any shadow or eyeliner.

She looks so so sad and somehow the lighting is a little unflattering, perhaps she shouldn’t have frowned the whole time….I think she’s a wonderful actress and naturally beautiful. This video doesn’t do her justice.
