Carey Mulligan Dishes On Her Desire For Long Hair—Despite Her New Look
INF
“I really want long hair,” Carey Mulligan confessed to PEOPLE on Tuesday at the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards gala in New York, where she nabbed the Best Actress prize for her role in An Education, “But I don’t have time to grow it out.” Explaining her freshly-shorn, exceedingly close crop, the Brit actress, who was dressed in a sleek black cocktail shift by Prada and dangly Fred Leighton earrings, said, “It was getting all shaggy. It was all growing out. It gets to that horrible stage where you look homeless.” Hairstylist Didier Malige, who has lived with Vogue’s September Issue star Grace Coddington for the last 20 years — did the trim on Mulligan’s already minimalist tresses. Did Mulligan instruct his scissorhands? “No, I just always have ultimate faith that they’ll fix it,” she said. The shade also migrated just a tad. The color was red for her role in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps (co-starring her real-life beau Shia LaBeouf), and “I’ve been saying it’s red all day,” the 24 year-old explained. “But now I think it’s finally brown. . . brunette.” And what if she gets a role that requires long hair? “I’ll wig it,” quipped Mulligan.
