Rihanna Dishes on Her Glam Team and “Really Personal” Album

How do you style a fashion icon for a cover shoot? In labels like Gucci, Dior and Van Cleef & Arpels if you’re putting together Rihanna‘s edgy spread for the February issue of W. The singer tells the magazine that she is embracing her new status as a role model following her assault by then-boyfriend Chris Brown: “I feel like this happened to me so I could be a voice for young girls who are going through what I went through and don’t know how to talk about it.” Coincidentally or not, her look has gotten tougher over the past year—with more spikes, studs and cut-outs than ever—as has her music. Rihanna tells W, “This was a different type of record for me. It was really personal; it was for me in the most authentic way. It’s like a movie in that when I was making the album, every day I was in a different mood.
