It’s been quite a journey for Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. Her critically acclaimed performance in the drama, alongside Mariah Carey, has already garnered her SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations along with plenty of Oscar buzz. In the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the 26 year-old, Brooklyn-born star dishes on her larger-than-life confidence, fashion philosophy and what she won’t do to fit in designer clothes. Dressed in a slinky, red Tommy Hilfiger dress and strands of diamonds from famed jewelers Harry Winston, Kwiat and Chopard, she tells the magazine of her glam look, “I feel like a model.” And while Gabourey can pose for the camera like any seasoned pro, her confidence didn’t come as easily as it may seem. “It came late, too late in my life,” she recalls of changing her attitude. “One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl.” And now, Gabourey goes for bold colors and glam gowns, including her favorite — the David Meister number she wore to the L.A. premiere of Precious. “It was so va va voom, my boobs looked so good in it. I had diamonds on too. Diamonds really do it.” Other than show-stopping bling, Gabourey says, “I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps.” And even though Gabourey has traded Torrid for designer labels, she promises that she won’t be slimming down any time soon to fit into sample sizes. “I hate yoga so much. Like if yoga was a person, I’d stab them,” she jokes. “It doesn’t make any sense to kill yourself, because who are you trying to be beautiful for? It’s a mind game, not a body game.” Hear more from Gabourey Sidibe in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on newsstands January 12, or at harpersbazaar.com.

@ Erin & Daisy B – I get what your saying but how do you all know that she just wasnt born bigger. She may be a very healthy woman. YOu dont know how she eats or what she eats. I eat healthy and im fat. If you paid attention you would notice that she has lost a great amount of weight since she first stepped on the scene. I think she is a beautiful woman with a great personality. And with the weight issues we have in our country she is a great role model for men and women alike. Her personailty and confidence is something to be admired.

Erin and Daisy-Don’t worry, Hollywood has its hooks in her now so it wont be long until comments like yours and pressures from the Hollywood elite push her to the dark side of crazy dieting, starving herself and other measures of coping with all the hate that people like you perpetuate. Shame on you.

I don’t know her personally, but I do know increased obesity rates equate to shorter lifespans and she is obese. No one says she should be a size 2 b/c everyone is not shaped like that, but i have not heard her once talk about losing weight but the messages I see enforce the opposite. She can do what she likes. If she dies young and sends messages to others regarding weight that cause them to die prematurely due to health problems connected to the weight then I would be remiss if I didn’t voice my concern. Not judging…just stating facts.

She’s too fat. It looks horrible. Hate people with no self-control. He should stop eating and get herself on a treadmill. It’s not cool she’s self-confident, it’s pathetic and delusional.

Oh, lighten up, Lori! No one here is saying that she should become anorexic. There is a healthy in-between area.

There has been a lot in the news lately identifying obesity as a cancer risk. I don’t think Erin and Daisy’s comments are hateful, nor are they claiming to know about this young woman’s personal health. All they were doing was pointing out that–as lovely and charming as she is–they hope she and all women can reach a healthy weight that will enable them to enjoy their successes for as long as possible.

Good luck to Gabourney! I’m looking forward to seeing the movie.

I think it’s great that she is confident in what she looks like and her attitude regarding not letting others dictate to the way she feels about herself. But she needs to lose weight for health reasons not so she can impress anyone. High blood pressure is very high amoung African Americans, and she is too young to suffer with a condition like that.

She played a character…the character inspired you. Gabourey is pretty hard to look at. It’s uncomfortable to look at her. She really needs to loose some weight if she wants to stay alive and attract other people to watch her future movies. Especially if she wants to do other types of movies. Sorry guys!

Just because she is big does not mean she is unhealthy. I have meet women who are thin and they have haelth problems and are alot of times unhappy. Stop judging and the last time I checked it whats on the inside that matters.

I’d take a big girl that is “unhealthy” due to her weight and attitude towards food over all the skinny girls out there partying and doing drugs or prescription meds and god knows what in order to stay a size 0…Brittany Murphy was skinny still died at age 32(and who’s to say it wasn’t because of all she had to do to stay skinny)…Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.Just because most of these women look glossy and glamorous on the red carpet doesn’t mean they are leading healthy and ideal lives…it’s all fake…so yeah give me a big girl anyday,at least what you see is what you get, there’s not pretence…

Not in Hollywood hunny. It’s all about looks! And she is not nice to look at! Unless she wants to continue playing roles about helpless woman whom we feel sorry for throughout the movie…she needs to step it up a couple notches!
