It’s been quite a journey for Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. Her critically acclaimed performance in the drama, alongside Mariah Carey, has already garnered her SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations along with plenty of Oscar buzz. In the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the 26 year-old, Brooklyn-born star dishes on her larger-than-life confidence, fashion philosophy and what she won’t do to fit in designer clothes. Dressed in a slinky, red Tommy Hilfiger dress and strands of diamonds from famed jewelers Harry Winston, Kwiat and Chopard, she tells the magazine of her glam look, “I feel like a model.” And while Gabourey can pose for the camera like any seasoned pro, her confidence didn’t come as easily as it may seem. “It came late, too late in my life,” she recalls of changing her attitude. “One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl.” And now, Gabourey goes for bold colors and glam gowns, including her favorite — the David Meister number she wore to the L.A. premiere of Precious. “It was so va va voom, my boobs looked so good in it. I had diamonds on too. Diamonds really do it.” Other than show-stopping bling, Gabourey says, “I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps.” And even though Gabourey has traded Torrid for designer labels, she promises that she won’t be slimming down any time soon to fit into sample sizes. “I hate yoga so much. Like if yoga was a person, I’d stab them,” she jokes. “It doesn’t make any sense to kill yourself, because who are you trying to be beautiful for? It’s a mind game, not a body game.” Hear more from Gabourey Sidibe in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on newsstands January 12, or at harpersbazaar.com.

I think it is awesome that she has confidence. Not many poeple have the strength to be confident in this shallow and fake world, however being healthy is also inmportant.

She difintiely needs to lose weight if she wants to live a long and healthy life.

God bless:)

Go girl! Gabourey is an inspiration to women of all ages and races. True confidence comes from within, and Gabourey’s confidence, and positive attitude are inspirational and contagious.

She is such an inspiration. Every interview I see of her I like her more and more.

What a great role model for ALL kids, of every shape, size and ethnic background.

I only hope I can raise a kid with such self confience and self worth. Her happiness is contagious!

she is entire too big and that is ridiculously unhealthy. It is good to have confidence and that confidence should push you not to be unhealthy. The threat of heart attacks, stroke, diabetes…etc are neither shallow nor superficial and someone should send a message saying that being that grotesquely obese is not to be glorified.

Gabourey inspires me to no end! She has this amazing light inside of her that just doesnt diminish no matter what the weight Nazis say. It’s totally a mind game. I want to be her friend!

@erin. Gabby will be fine. Now just work on your need to judge dear.

I’m with Erin on this one. You should do the best with what you’re given, so not everyone will be a size 4 (including me). Maintaining a healthy weight is not necessarily about being beautiful or meeting a stereotype – it’s about your health!

I agree that she is quite obese and that she needs to get healthy. However it is obvious that she is an active, driven person. She may never be a tiny person but as long as she’s healthy and confident…more power to her. Her ability to believe in herself and play such a complex role in a Precious is awe inspiring. Good luck to her in the future.

You go girl! Lose some weight but don’t lose yourself, you are AWESOME!

How do you know she is not healthy because of her weight? A size 2 can have all kind of health issues. So dont judge the girl cause she is doing her thing.

Her life, her decisions. Go Gabourey, it’s very possible in the future she might lose weight but as long as she continues to love herself she will be just fine.
