Looks like Lindsay Lohan‘s hope for a drama-free 2010 is already over. Merely a week after plans to expand her leggings line 6126 into a full fashion line hit the internet — complete with sketches — Lindsay has been accused of copying designs by two separate designers, reports WWD. First, James Lillis, designer of Black Milk Clothing, took to his blog, toomanytights.typepad.com, to point out the similarities between Lindsay’s “Diamond” leggings and his own “Sheer Spartan” leggings — both of which boast a signature triangle cutout at mid-thigh. Next,Fashionista.com labeled Lindsay’s geometric dress as a dead ringer for a Jen Kao dress the star wore only last month — to which designer Jen Kao responded to WWD, saying, “While we are all well aware that being ‘mimicked’ or ‘copied’ has always existed in this industry, I think the evolution of it all has grown to an alarming level. It’s a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic.” While Lindsay has yet to respond to the accusations against her, Kristi Kaylor, president of 6126, defended Lindsay and the integrity of her designs to WWD, saying, “The alleged ‘copying’ claims made by these companies are false and have absolutely no merit or validity whatsoever. Any alleged similarities are purely coincidental. The 6126 illustrations for the upcoming fall 2010 collections do not even describe the fabric content, fit or actual construction details of the garments. This is merely an accusation based upon a pencil sketch with no concrete viable evidence to back up the allegations.”

what does a clothing line have to do with the suppoused drug problem she has?Why do you nobody’s even bother to bring that up?This has nothing to do with that what so ever.BacK off.She has talent and for an idiot to say paris hilton is better then her? Are you on drug’s like your claim that Lindsay is?She’s famous for a sex tape. She cant act, sing,or model because of that huge nose she has.Lindsay can do all 3 and she’s just 23.If you want to make sense hold up a valid argument=D

Wow what the heck at these comments? Some of you are downright vile. Just like movies, music, paintings, and photographs, some things resemble others. Nothing in the industry is every 100% original and with all the designs out there, some things look like one another. Its usually a coincidence. This is nothing but blogs going after an easy target like Lindsay. for gods sake, even Marc Jacobs can be considered a copycat if anyone bothered to go hunt down and look for similar items to his designs.

I am amazed that people think Lindsey actually sketched the one on the right. I would probably faint if she did anything more that take a look at it, and sign on to say she ‘designed’ it. Isn’t that what most celebrity lines are, anyway?

I consider it somewhat sad that this discussion has focused more on Lindsay Lohan than on the other two designers who really deserve the airplay under the circumstances.

That said however, as a pattern maker in the fashion industry I can assure you that the issue of copying is far more difficult to establish than one might think from a superficial glance. I wouldn’t have a great deal of difficulty finding examples of both the dress and leggings that predate even those alleged of being copied … so really, where’s the crime? I wrote an article on my blog about how the legal system (at least here in Australia) does the determination process when it comes to alleged copying in the fashion industy. Might not be what you want to hear … but it’s how the system really works.

@mel: ‘Lindsey is a loser. Squandering her life. All she does is use people, and this is no different. If the girl had any real talent she would focus on acting, but apparently all she has is theft and alcohol. What a shame.’

Loser is you! You made this comment to offend Lindsay and dont know nothing about Linds’s life or career. Jealous. Theft??? Laughing. Do you have a lot of money than Lindsay? Err, one minute, I am going to think! :) You are so shame, fact!
Kisses :)
