EXCLUSIVE: Jason Alexander is the New Jenny Craig Spokesperson!

01/06/2010 at 12:00 PM ET

Move over Valerie Bertinelli and Sara Rue — there’s a new man in town. Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has one big resolution for 2010 — to drop pounds as the newest spokesperson for Jenny Craig. “It’s like someone’s clubbing me over the head it’s so obvious I should be doing this,” the funnyman told PEOPLE on Monday. “It was a deadly combination of I’m fat and they work,” he says of his decision to try the program. The former KFC spokesperson says he was drawn to Jenny Craig after watching footage of his recent appearances in film and television. “I just got to a point where when I would look at the Seinfeld reunion stuff or one of these other projects that I had done, I said, ‘I don’t like the way that guy looks. That guy is not attractive in any way, shape or form to me,’” he says. “It made me go, ‘Oh, yuck!’” Alexander hopes to slim down between 30 and 40 pounds to reflect his weight during the early years of the show that made him a star. “Over the course of the nine years of Seinfeld, I can actually see my hairline go away and my waistline increase. One of them I can do nothing about; the other I can,” he jokes. The comedian credits his initial weight gain to sympathy-weight during his wife’s two pregnancies – he gained about 15 pounds during each — and the increased quality of craft services on the Seinfeld set — “it will absolutely kill ya!”

Alexander was also inspired by the success of pal and fellow Jenny Craig spokesperson Bertinelli, who flaunted her slimmed-down bikini-bod on the cover of PEOPLE last April — though don’t expect Alexander to do the same. “I will not be wearing a bikini for you,” he promises. The actor says he’s excited to join the mostly-female ranks of Jenny Craig spokespeople. “It’s hard for me to think of the Jenny Craig program — or any weight loss program — as a female thing,” he says. L.A. Clippers player Baron Davis has also endorsed the program. “I’m trying not only to do it for myself but I’m encouraging other guys to come on board and say we can do this. This will work for us, and we can do this and deal with the problem,” says Alexander. “If somebody goes, ‘Well, if George can do it, I can do it!’ – that’s great. Whatever it takes to get you heading in the right direction. If I’m it, great!” –Jessica Wedemeyer

I never saw ONE ad with Sara Rue, unfortunatetly. I’d read that she was a spokesperson, but have never seen a televised ad. Did she have any success?

Best of luck to Jason.

I just wanted to say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a male contender for being a spokesperson for Jenny Craig and I think its awesome that Jason is stepping up the plate! Good Luck!

I just want to wish Jason Alexander the best as the new Jenny Craig Spokesperson! Glad to hear that Gary Coleman is fine, and that whatever he had is not life threatening, etc.

This is AWESOME! I love him. He is such a great guy. Good for you Jason. Much success comes your way…..

I’m really happy for him; I hope he does well. Jenny Craig works however they’re too pricey for most people plus you have to add fruits & veggies to the diet. If I have to buy & cook my own veggies then what do I need Jenny Craig for. Veggies are 90% of my problem.

I’m on Jenny and wish him well. It’s working for me. And WHEN are they going to start airing Sara Rue commercials? She tweeted that she was on the set of another one yesterday. I know she’s doing amazing on the program cause I’ve been following her blogs on the Jenny cite. Totally love her.

I know the program works, just can’t afford it like these celebritie’s. They can afford it, but probably get it for free. I think they should donate a membership to one of us normal folk’s, per celebrity, at least, pretty sure they could afford that!

Good luck Jason, love him!

I think that Jenny should use an ordinary person to be a spokesmodel. Stars have trainers, assistants, housekeepers, etc. to help them with everyday chores so they can concentrate on themselves. How about taking a real woman – or man – with a job, house, kids, etc and watching them lose weight and become healthier. Yes, I know that in a couple of the Valerie commercials, there was a woman who said she had lost weight with the program, but we didn’t get to see her journey.
I have suggested this to Jenny, but they didn’t think it was a good idea. Until they do, I won’t believe them.

Good luck Jason,
My boyfriend is doing the jenny craig thing and he has lost 40 pounds in three months…which shows me that anything is possible…

I can’t imagine a worse choice as a male spokesperson. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL lol lol.
Can’t get his winey voice out of my mind.
when I think of him.

Maybe Jenny needed a male…. but better choices
would have been many, maybe even Newman!?

Just my two, but good luck and go lose ‘em Jason.

I think it is wonderful that all of these people have lost weight and the famous are supporting the Jenny Craig program. I have a concern about the program and wonder if it affects others. My 80 year old mom joined Jenny Craig on her own last August and has lost 54 lbs. My mom is home bound and we live in an area where a center is more than 60 miles away. My mom is also on a fixed income and lives alone. She currently spends an extra $130 a month to have her food delivered and to speak to her support person who she has grown very attached to. We recently found out about the center 60 miles from us and wanted to pick up the food for my mom, since that is where we go for groceries, but was told she would have to come to the center to talk with their support person. That $130 could buy her more food and keep her on her mission. It appears to us that Jenny Craig is only interested in collecting their money and really not in the well-being of their clients. I am wondering what others feel or if anyone else has experienced this problem? It really is not very accommodating to those on fixed incomes and who don’t have easy access to the getting themselves to the centers. We have been told that each center is run independently but they are under the corporate umbrella. Still can’t figure it out.

Jenny on

That’s a tough situation Barbara; I’m sure that’s upsetting. There may have been a miscommunication with the Jenny Craig centre. You should call 1800JennyCare to make sure your mom can’t call in to the local centre for her consultations. I’ve heard of others doing this before. Hope this helps!

One of his last gigs was hosting the “Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces” dinner in New York. Geez, while Jason was there, he shudda asked his buddy Dov Weisglass. He knows how to put people on a diet–but only if they’re Palestinian. “The idea is to put the Palestinians on a diet but not to make them die of hunger.”
– Dov Weisglass, adviser to then-Israeli Prime-Minister Ehud Olmert, talking about Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip. Source 1, 2

Maybe Jason should go stay in Gaza for awhile. They got hardly any food there. It takes off the pounds I understand, especially from children, many of whom are malnourished, thanks to Israel and their buddy Egypt. Egged on by the U.S. who sends billions in taxes to both.

Take a look at the video in the Source section of this seawnr. It may not directly seawnr your question about fixing your slice, but it talks more about the swing timing and take-back. I fixed my slice by drawing the driver straight back from the ball until my natural body rotation lifted the club from the ground and then behind me. Do not pause in your backswing, go directly but smoothly into a forward motion. As you strike the ball, try to throw your hands towards your target, following through with your swing high and above your shoulders, not behind you like a baseball swing. The video shows an excellent practice method that should help fix your slice. Set up like normal, then lift the driver just above the ball. Like a pendulum, rotate your upper torso to swing the driver towards your target, then directly into your backswing. Without stopping your backswing, make a smooth transition into your forward swing and followthough by turning your torso toward your target (belt buckle facing target). If it sounds confusing, watch the video below. It really will help. Good Luck!
