Macy’s Wants You to “Believe” in Santa Claus

Macy’s is spreading the holiday cheer by declaring December 11 “National Believe Day.” In honor of the famous 1897 New York Sun editorial “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” Macy’s will be dispatching street teams dressed as 19th-century newsboys in select cities to reward lucky passers-by with $25 gift cards, and if you are named Virginia, you can get a $10 off coupon at any Macy’s store. In addition, shoppers can mail letters to Santa at any Macy’s store, and for each one received, the company will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation up to $1 million. Be sure to catch Yes Virginia, an animated special based on the real Virginia O’Hanlon’s Christmas tale, airing on CBS December 11 with voices provided by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Neil Patrick Harris.

Dita Von Teese On Feeling “Very Ordinary Looking” and Her “Extreme Shyness”

INF

Though you’d never know it by watching one of her sultry stripteases, Dita Von Teese hasn’t always exuded confidence. In a recent interview with ecostiletto.com, the burlesque performer admits, “I always felt like a very ordinary looking girl, and I found that dressing in a unique way made me feel less ordinary and more glamorous,” referencing her love of vintage clothing from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. The 35 year-old continues to surprise by copping to serious bashfulness: “I also used clothes as a way to counteract my extreme shyness when I was younger. I wore a lot of extravagant vintage hats, which can make people somewhat intimidated. I think people will only approach if they have something very, very interesting to say to the girl in the outrageous hat!” When asked where she gets her fashion inspiration, Von Teese cites Marlene Dietrich and Italian heiress Marchesa Casati, whom she describes as “icons that have distinctive ‘screw you if you don’t like it’ looks!” before also signing off on Lady Gaga’s atypical aesthetic. “Great style icons aren’t afraid of being the subject of a little ridicule here and there. I love it! I am impressed with Lady Gaga right now. She is proving to be a really eccentric dresser.” Visit ecostiletto.com for more of Dita Von Teese’s thoughts on style.

Glee‘s Amber Riley Feels “Sexy” In Her Body

Sara Jaye Weiss/Startraks

Amber Riley, who plays powerhouse songstress Mercedes Jones in Glee, tells PEOPLE she feels “sexy” in her body, despite battling criticism and her fluctuating size. “I was very skinny when I was little, and I got made fun of for being really skinny, so then I started to eat,” Riley says. “Then I got fat,” she laughs. “Then I got made fun of for being fat.” The 23 year-old has since accepted she has curves like Beyoncé, whose body she covets, and has chosen to drown out what other people think. “If they don’t like me when I’m skinny, and they don’t like me when I’m fat, I may as well find where I’m comfortable,” she says. “So I’m all for working out and eating good, but this is where my body settled, and I’m very happy with the way I am.” In addition to the dance numbers the actress performs on the show, she also exercises in her free time, running 30-45 minutes a day and dancing to the DVD Hip Hop Abs with Shaun T at night. And when it’s time to indulge, she’s not immune to the temptation of fast food: ”Pizza is my favorite food. Pepperoni from Papa John’s.” — Aileen Wong
