The Jersey Shore Cast Reveals Their Beauty and Style Secrets

RD/Kirkland/Retna

With their super-sized personalities, architecturally impressive hairstyles, and their tendency to speak of themselves in the third person, the eight cast members of MTV’s Jersey Shore are rapidly becoming America’s latest guilty pleasure. And for these self-described Guidos and Guidettes, looking good is a complete way of life. “A guy from [the] Jersey Shore is a guy that is looking good, feeling confident, taking care of himself,” DJ Pauly D tells PEOPLE at the Spike TV’s Video Game Awards 2009, proudly pointing out that it takes him nearly a half an hour to sculpt his impenetrable hair. “It takes me twenty-five minutes to get it right. Greatness takes time, and this hair right here is greatness. I have it down to a tee, but this is a process right here.” And it’s not just the guys who can wax philosophical on the topic. “At the end of the day, it’s not about Italians coming together, it’s about a lifestyle,” says Jenni (aka “J-WOWW”) “We all live by a certain lifestyle…. the hair, the make up, the tans…being fit. It’s all preparation for the summer.” And while there are some that have to try harder, others feel it’s actually effortless. “It doesn’t matter what I’m wearing,” says “Snooki”, who proudly admits to donning full makeup when she goes to the gym, “I look good in anything!” For the show’s detractors who insist that it only serves to reinforce negative Italian-American stereotypes, Mike (aka “The Situation”) asks that people show a little patience. “It’s only the first episode,” he tells PEOPLE. “and we’re only seven days in, so you have to give us a chance.” The Staten Island native, whose nickname is the result of a woman pointing out his chiseled abs in a nightclub, adds, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” –Reagan Alexander

Chace Crawford Dishes on Being Gossip Girl‘s ‘Hot Boy! Pretty Boy!’

Eugene Gologursky/WireImage

If you’ve ever been irritated by a supermodel bemoaning her beauty or a dreamy hunk claiming not to understand his appeal, Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford‘s take on his good looks will come as a refreshing surprise. “I’m not ignorant to the fact that part of the reason why the show’s popular and part of the reason [why] people want to see it is to be like, ‘Oh, novelty boy! Hot boy! Pretty boy!’” he tells WWD in an interview. And PEOPLE couldn’t agree more! Not only was the star voted PEOPLE’s Hottest Bachelor this summer, but this fall Chace’s messy boy bangs and kissable lips were definitely two of the reasons we set our DVRs every Monday. But he does admit that his boyish good looks aren’t easy to achieve on a daily basis. “I have to be completely impeccably, annoyingly clean-shaven for Gossip Girl,” laughs the heartthrob, who keeps his skin perfectly smooth with Kiehl’s or Malin + Goetz face wash.

EXCLUSIVE: Serena Williams Reveals Her Secrets to Design Success

Courtesy HSN; Wireimage

The fashion world is a notoriously tough place, so ever since Serena Williams’s debut fashion and accessory collection sold out after just three hours of airtime on HSN in April, the tennis great has become one of the shopping channel’s brightest stars. How’d she do it? As she gears up to reveal her latest line, Williams took time to chat with PEOPLE about getting it right.

“First of all, everything in the collection is under $100,” says Serena. “And everything you get from me [is] great quality. I think for those prices and [this] quality, it is a no-brainer.” She also attributes her success to being able to connect directly with consumers and share her enthusiasm with them in real-time on HSN. “I think on live television people really get to see my personality and how really I feel about clothes and fashion,” she explains. Set to return to HSN today, Serena also gave us a peek at her latest additions, including her favorite ruched dress ($55 at HSN.com). “When I made it, I thought it was going to be nice, but when I put it on, I couldn’t believe it,” she gushes about her handiwork. “It was ruched in all the right places–it feels like you don’t have anything on.”

Check out more of her designs now, including the boyfriend sweater above at HSN.com, and catch Serena live on HSN tonight from 9-11 p.m. ET.
