Nicole Kidman Chats Food, Fitness, and Fashion

Courtesy SHE

Nicole Kidman might wear head-to-toe designer labels on the red carpet (the actress looked stunning in Azzedine Alaia at the Nine premiere in London last week) but off-duty, she prefers a very different look. “I collect vintage clothes,” she tells British SHE magazine in its December issue. “I’m obsessed with lace and 1940′s florals.” Slipping into dainty tea dresses is a non-issue for the 42 year-old, given her passion for exercise, and in particular, running: “It’s what my dad taught us – he’s a marathon runner,” she says. And he’s hoping to pass his enthusiasm for fitness on to his granddaughter, Sunday Rose. The actress continues, “He’s 71 and goes on 10-mile runs. He takes Sunday hiking on his back for hours.” With a recipe book that includes fried artichoke pasta, Kidman says she prefers to focus on her health rather than numbers on a scale. “As Keith’s a musician there are pitstops at Wendy’s” she says, adding: “But I’m six-foot tall, so it’s not weight that’s an issue for me, but things like cholesterol.” -Monique Jessen

Glee‘s Mark Salling on His Hair: “I Hate the Mohawk”

Matthias Clamer/FOX

Mark Salling, 27, who plays resident bad boy and high school jock Puck on Glee, isn’t so fond of his character’s signature hair. “I’m so over the mohawk, I’m not gonna lie,” Salling reveals. “I hate the mohawk.” The hairstyle which made him unofficially known as “the guy with the mohawk” first came about four months before his Glee audition when he had knee surgery, then he shaved it again when he auditioned for the musical comedy, and now he’s stuck with the cut. “It was cool for a while, but I’ve had it for like a year, you know I’m kind of over it,” Salling says. “I feel better when I don’t have it.” Over the past few months, he didn’t have the ‘do while the show was on hiatus, but he was spotted with it again last Thursday at Bryant Park in NY at the Marshalls and T.J. Maxx’s “Carol-Oke” Contest. The actor, who was recently featured in PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive issue jokes that the mohawk’s powers have helped him achieve his spot in the issue, “It’s the secret.” But don’t just chalk up his sex appeal just to his hair do. The actor is a self-described hopeless romantic and has a few tricks up his sleeve to win over a girl’s heart. “In high school I had a girlfriend, “ Salling says. “There was this field near where I lived. I took little plate-sized rocks and arranged them in a heart under a tree and didn’t tell her. I just took her out there and was like, ‘look where we are.’” Ladies, as you swoon over his romantic side, see if you fit his type: “I like a girl who doesn’t play any games.” Salling says. “I like a very sweet girl.” — Aileen Wong

Taylor Swift Goes High Glamour on the Cover of T

Courtesy of T Magazine

It’s Taylor Swift like you’ve never seen her before! The country star goes big-city stylish on the cover of this Sunday’s T: The New York Times Style Magazine. And on its inside pages it’s clear that she’s come a long way from her days of dressing in jeans and sparkly shirts to drop off CD demos at major record labels when she was just 11. Taylor models some seriously high-fashion looks in the spread, which was shot by famed photographer Raymond Meier, including a silver metallic Burberry Prorsum jacket, Chanel dress, to a dazzling Prada Swarovski crystal top and chandelier skirt. But it wasn’t just fashion on the star’s mind. Swift talks openly about growing up as an outcast. “I would sit on the edge of class and watch people interact with each other,” said Swift. “I’d watch guys flirt with cool girls and I would watch best friends talk, and I would go home and write about it. If you listen to my albums, it’s like reading my diary.” Visit nytimes.com to watch video of the singer’s heart-to heart with T‘s editor at large, and read the full story in T Magazine’s Holiday issue, which comes out this weekend in the Sunday New York Times.
