Christina Ricci Takes the Lead in a New Fashion Flick for Donna Karan

If you ever questioned Christina Ricci’s versatility as an actress, her latest role knocks away the doubts as she stars as four characters in a just-released short film for Donna Karan. Created to highlight the fashion brand’s new Eldridge bag, which is equipped with modular straps and buttons so it can be carried four different ways, the film was shot on location at New York City’s Soho Grand Hotel, and is directed by 24 year-old newcomer Jake Sumner (who also happens to be son of Sting and Trudie Styler). “I have been a long term devotee of Donna Karan. This was the perfect opportunity for me to work with a wonderful new director, wear amazing pieces, be in New York, and make a cool film. It was really fun,” says Ricci, who is shown primping, dancing, and lounging in a hotel suite in a myriad of flirty cocktail dresses, spiky heels—and at one point, nothing but a skimpy black bra and panties. The company’s DKNY label is also getting in on the video action, with a short featuring the line’s Cozy wrap sweater in rainbow colors worn by an army of models parading all over the city, which you can see below. Sumner’s short with Ricci is sweet. The music however, sounds like a modern funeral dirge.

Sweater short.Would like to see a couple of pausing spotlights on ….the sweaters?

How can anyone call this a film? This fits the definition of a commercial! How is it great news for an film actress to suddenly start doing commercial work? This article is a joke! Its insane that it starts with, “If you ever questioned Christina Ricci’s versatility as an actress, her latest role knocks away the doubts as she stars as four characters…”! Please! Whoever wrote this obviously doesn’t understand much.

I’m with Lori on the whole film thing! However she does look great! And the sweater thing just made me dizzy and I never once got a good view of any of the sweaters!

Christina, always wear bangs! Awesome look on you!

The short film barely even centers on the bag. I didn’t really see the 4 different ways it can be worn. Not a good commercial…and this commercial does not suddenly make Ricci an Oscar winner. Anyone could’ve filled that role! It wasn’t difficult at all.

- Pamela on

Both were a joke.

I expected something edgy and cool with the Ricci spot, and all i got was a split screen mess with barely one decent look at the bag, OR the 4 ways it can be worn. I wouldn’t call what Ricci did as “acting”, either. close-ups of her looking in a mirror, having her hair pulled back or (whoa! shock!) down, and jumping on a bed aren’t exactly ground-breaking.

The DKNY bit i couldn’t even finish. It was a dizzy mess, and you never got to look at the damn sweater! And again with the split screen…what is this, a 1980′s Duran Duran video? enough already!

It is a right blog for any person who wants to find out about this kind of question. You know so much its almost very difficult to argue with you (not that I actually would want鈥aHa). You certainly put a different spin for the topic that is already been written about for some time. Awesome stuff, simply just superb!
