Macy’s Wants You to “Believe” in Santa Claus

12/10/2009 at 12:00 PM ET

Macy’s is spreading the holiday cheer by declaring December 11 “National Believe Day.” In honor of the famous 1897 New York Sun editorial “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” Macy’s will be dispatching street teams dressed as 19th-century newsboys in select cities to reward lucky passers-by with $25 gift cards, and if you are named Virginia, you can get a $10 off coupon at any Macy’s store. In addition, shoppers can mail letters to Santa at any Macy’s store, and for each one received, the company will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation up to $1 million. Be sure to catch Yes Virginia, an animated special based on the real Virginia O’Hanlon’s Christmas tale, airing on CBS December 11 with voices provided by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Neil Patrick Harris.
