Victoria Beckham’s Secrets To Her Success: Hard Work And Being Bullied

When it comes to expanding her burgeoning fashion empire, Victoria Beckham has adopted a slow-but-steady philosophy, telling WWD: “It’s about doing things gradually and building the brand in a strategic way. With everything that I do, I will only do it after I’ve done all my homework. I really am a perfectionist.” The former Spice Girl’s approach has proven effective, as she’s already on her fourth season as a designer, and just debuted re-vamped sunglasses and denim lines to add to her range of dresses (which already counts Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez as fans)—all of which is projected to drum up $7.5 million in sales next year. In a recent sit-down with the newspaper, Beckham reflects on her determination to succeed. “I’ve always been driven. I was mentally and physically bullied when I was at school and that gave me a very thick skin… I have always been a fighter. I have always had to work very, very hard with everything I do. That is just my work ethic…That’s my DNA.” Never one to rest on her laurels, Beckham adds, “I’m my competition. I want to do better next season than I did this season. And I’m sure the season after that I will want to beat myself again.” To shop her collection, go to net-a-porter.com.
