Paris Hilton's Surprising Style Revelation: "I Am Still a Tomboy"

She’s already created a fashion empire of handbags, fragrances and hair extensions, and now Paris Hilton has a new addition to her style stable, with two more beauty products: The Celebrity Styler flat iron and Ultimate Brush. “There are a lot of products out there that don’t work, they’re a rip-off,” the star told PEOPLE at a launch event for the products at the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills. “I wanted to make something that was affordable, that works. It’s fast, it’s easy and you don’t need a hair stylist.” Paris’s mom Kathy weighed in on why her daughter had the perfect skill-set to be a hair care success: “She’s a hair fanatic,” Kathy explained to PEOPLE. “That’s why with the Simple Life she decided to do those hair extensions, because she went crazy thinking ‘I’m going to be without a blow-dryer for four weeks!’” Sister Nicky concurred, saying, “She’s always loved experimenting with different makeup and hairstyles, so I think this product is a lot of fun for her.” Paris, however, admitted to PEOPLE an unexpectedly unglamorous side to herself. “I still am a tomboy. I love to go fishing. I love sports. I used to play ice hockey. You know, I think people only see the glamour and the parties, but when I’m at home I’m completely different.” Learn more about the Celebrity Styler, $60, and Ultimate Brush, $10, at Sallybeauty.com. — reporting by Pearl Barraclough

I’m so proud of Paris. Ever since she got out of jail in June 2006 she’s becoming a different independent woman. All her projects are so amazing, and successful and out in stores in such shocking short time. That show’s she’s not just a heiress and enjoy life, but someone who is thankful for things in her life and strive for what she longs for. You go Paris, you’re just awesome. She’s my role model. Paris some years ago is not the same today.

When I saw the headline, I had to read this – it is hysterical. I don’t know Hilton, I don’t have an opinion on her – her public image is less than impressive and I do have an opinion on that. Also, even though I don’t know her, I can say that she is so exposed that one thing is certain – she is no tomboy.
I highly doubt Hilton prefers the outdoors to the clubs, or terrain over marble floors. In all honesty, she would rather be looking at herself in the mirror than doing something useful. I don’t think we will be seeing Hilton working on a car, shoveling snow, or even cutting the grass any time soon. Well – maybe we will – she did things like this on her show, didn’t she, because it was supposed to be entertaining to see her fail? Now she will do it for her image, but all the while curse every motion in her mind.
Hilton is followed all the time, and if she was a Tomboy, we would know it there very little separation between her public and private life, and that is her choice. The paparazzi keep catching her carrying her little dog in some thousand dollar purse dressed like a little girl. So is she saying that when she walks through the house she is suddenly a tomboy but when she steps out she transforms herself into something else entirely? Being a tomboy is not a great thing or a bad thing, it is what it is. But in her case she is trying to pass herself off as just a down to earth girl – which is funny to me. And none of these one things I mentioned necessarily makes someone a tomboy all around, but it is far closer in that direction than anything Miss Hilton would ever try. This is a woman that gets paid just to show up to some event dressed like a barbie doll. I wonder if she pays someone to hold her fishing poll for her.

Are you really trying to convince us that you believe you’re “one of us,” Paris? Obviously your PR team has advised you to put on the “common touch.”

Love, Love, Love Paris. I think she is a real girl under all the glitter.

ebecca on

It is all so unimportant.

Personally, I think she’s a very smart business woman. She wouldn’t have gotten to where she is today, having entire empire, without having some smarts.
