EXCLUSIVE: Natalie Portman on Aging In Hollywood and Plastic Surgery

11/04/2009 at 11:39 AM ET

Mario Testino/V Magazine

Wearing a pompadour and a Swarovski-studded Calvin Klein Jeans jacket, Natalie Portman looks tough in this sneak peek of the winter 2009/2010 issue of V Magazine, shot by photographer Mario Testino. And in the accompanying interview she’s talking tough, too — about the role of beauty in her industry. “You see people who were stars five years ago and already they’re waning,” Natalie says of the imposed short shelf life of many Hollywood actresses. “As actresses approach 40, it starts becoming really, really difficult.” And while at 28, she’s still years from that marker, she’s ambivalent about plastic surgery in the future. “I would hope not,” she says of whether she’d ever go under the knife. She does not, however, completely rule it out, explaining that she won’t know how she’ll feel as she ages. While wrinkles aren’t a problem yet, she admits, “if I have a pimple I want to get rid of it.” Check out the full interview in V Magazine, on stands today.

She looks absolutely stunning.

She is drop-dead gorgeous, and sooo underrated as an actress. I hope she goes on to do more great work because she’s done some amazing stuff already. Did I mention she’s absolutely stunning?!?!?

A pimple?? What the heck is wrong with these people? Natalie Portman is cute not gorgeous. I know a ton of girls who look better than her. As for her acting she’s alright. Considering she graduated from Harvard I was hoping her answer would be a little less superficial.

K-Goody on

I love her. She doesn’t need plastic surgey! Shes amazing. why would Queen Amidala need to be more beautiful? lol.

Lita—

Who is actually gorgeous then, since she is only “cute”? God, people are ridiculous about judging celebrities. 99% of the population doesn’t even come close to as attractive as Natalie Portman.

Delana on

Natalie is beautiful girl and a very talented actress. Please age naturally; most celebrities who end up getting plastic surgery/botox end up looking scary and shocked all the time. LOL

KW from France on

Why should she give an intellectual answer to a superficial magazine??? Leave the smart gorgeous ones alone.

Some seems to forget that any average women in American could be on a mag cover. If we all had professional sytlist, make-up artist, hairdresses, and then were edited with an airbrush, we all look pretty darn good. She is an attractive, educated and successful young woman. Some don’t feel good about themselves, so they have say something mean about others.

Lita,

Natalie is beautiful, to me and most of the people who have posted. If you don’t think she is beautiful, I have no problem with that. The fact that you do have a problem with people who obviously don’t feel the same way, says more about you.

Natalie is an actress. Acting is a very superficial business. Even people who did not graduate from Harvard know that. And most people do try to get rid of pimples when they appear.

i agree, pickles.. we’re definitely sitting on the same side of the teeter totter with that one.
