Lindsay Lohan On Her Ungaro Debut: "I Am Learning"

10/14/2009 at 06:25 PM ET

Marion Curtis/Startraks

The Paris fashion world never expected to see pasties on the runway. Nor, apparently, did the creative consultant behind the disastrous line, Lindsay Lohan. The actress, 23, who was skewered by the fashion press for the first Ungaro collection she served as artistic advisor on, blamed the fiasco on “coming in so late and having not that much time to do a whole collection.” As for the much-maligned sequined pasties flashed by the models when they opened their jackets and blouses, Lohan said told PEOPLE on Wednesday at a Victoria’s Secret Velvet launch party in New York that she was as shocked as the audience. “I wasn’t aware of the nipple tassels on the girls until they were walking out,” she says, adding that “I am going back to Paris for the next collection….I am learning.” Still, the clock for her next collection is already ticking. “It’s already in January,” she says. “I thought it was in March.” –Isley Kasica

Take responsibility for something, ANYTHING. Blaming others leaves you with nothing.

ctg1989 on

O Gosh…here we go again…another lame excuse from Lindsey Lohan. Why can’t she own up to her own mistakes/shortcommings and admit she was in over her head. I respect a person more when they speak the truth instead of lying and trying to blame others!

Cyn on

Ungaro blew it on this one. By choosing Lohan, you cheapened your brand.

Meg on

I agree…Its always someone else’s fault, and the constant excuses….Good Lord girl! Take some ownership and maybe people will respect you for it

kathy on

I agree, Ungaro has cheapened their line and their name by partnering up with Lindsay. If they were looking to appeal to a younger demographic, they should have picked a MUCH better role model. Who wants to be like Lindsay Lohan? The poor girl is a wreck

christy Jane on

Oh it is so like her to blame someone else or something else on her short comings, I mean just because she buys fashion does not make her a consultant of fashion. I think a lot of comes with her up bringing she has never had “own” any thing. He family, her mother especially always makes excuses for her, so why would she ever say for once, “Look I have no idea what I am doing??”. its just sad that there are little girls out there and this is the role model society has to offer.

Susie on

They should’ve picked someone like Rachel Bilson! She’s young, hip, stylish, and a class act all the way!

Katie on

God she gets more pathetic by the second….

Susan on

Actually Lindsay wasn’t responsible for the nipple tassels. That was said immediately after. Lindsay is accepting the criticism for her part in the show, just not this part of it!

vivien on

I agree with the other posters … this is getting old – quit blaming others for your failings! Lindsay needs to take responsibility for once! And, yes, way to go Ungaro – in hiring Lindsay, you cheapened your brand.

Susan on

HEY – I am Susan (the first one). Not any other one. I still only say “take responsibility.” Nothing else.

Jenn on

If she ever said, “Look, I have no idea what I’m doing” I think I’d have to ask who at Ungaro hired her and why. Hmmm. Maybe we should be asking that already! If that’s the kind of reputation they want, I say, go for it. I hear Paris, Brit, etc, are available.

Cath on

She cannot dress herself well, so why should anyone think that she could handle being a ‘consultant’?

John Michael on

Talk about a trainwreck

Cara on

why isn’t anyone criticizing the designer? lindsay was only a consultant, and while she didn’t have enough time, the designer certainly did. she shouldn’t be taking responsability…

Max on

We can all criticize Lindsey all we want. But we are not in her shoes. She definitely has some issues and needs some serious help–only difference is that she has to live those issues through the press. Her parents are proof that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I wish Lindsey would clean up, get away from those leeches in her life and go back to the Lindsey we all loved–like when she was in Mean Girls. I dont condone her conduct, but whether a regular Joe or celebrity–sickness is sickness. This is only the opinion of one man.

Shannon on

And see how nicely she’s set herself up to be blameless should the next one be a disaster as well? She mentions it’s in January already, adding “I thought it was in March.” There now. No one can blame her for THAT one, either.

Angelique on

Pathetic. All she knows is how to crush parties and complain. In the real world people have to work all their lives before they receive recognition or respect. I say this girl already got waaaaaay more than she ever really deserved. I am amazed that serious people would want to downgrade themselves by working with her. Oh yeah fashion sense? I’ve never seen her well put together either. Her signature look is fake spotty tan and bleached hair extensions.

susan on

This girl never takes responsibility for anything. She’s turned into one big failure. Lindsay get some help. You look horrible. I’ve never seen a 23 year old who looks more in need of botox and that shouldn’t be. You look rode hard and put away wet and the only way someone your age would look like that is too much partying, drinking, and drugging.

Lena on

Two words-Fire Her!

My .02 cents on

Lindsay is the new Britney 2 years ago..

Bonnie on

Good Lord! She didn’t even know the launch date of the next collection either! I guess anyone can design a new line of clothing if this ding dong can….

Sam on

How about these fashion houses hire REAL, educated, experienced designers?!? These celebrities are NOT designers if they have not gone to school…show me ONE with a Bachelors degree in fashion design! Those of us who are still paying off our student loans and working as real designers are sick of seeing the Lindsays, Jessicas, and J.Lo’s being hailed as designers…they ARE NOT! Jessica Simpson has a whole design team behind her as did J.Lo and the other celebs…they just point to pictures they like…they are not part of the design development portion, sourcing fabrics, pattern making, etc. Ungaros’ house did a great disservice to the industry!

Rita on

There was a time when Lindsay had potential and was the “it” girl in Hollywood. What the heck happened? She has totally crashed and burned. She needs to lay low and get her life back in order.

Deborah on

It just seems that LL is getting a free ride attempting to be the worlds greatest fashion designer. She messed up her acting career, didnt really stick with a singing career, and other opportunities have been ruined by her childish behavior. Now she expects to be taken seriously in her first attempt to play fashion designer. Regardless of a few tassels, I would think people are annoyed with her lack of humility throughout her career. Playing a victim and not appreciating all the breaks she’s had is vulgar imo.

Why are people so darn quick to judge? There wasn’t much time between the announcement that Lindsay was going to be a consultant and the actual show. I’m not a Lindsay fan but give the girl a break! I know for a fact that even though I’ve been a clothes hound for more years than most of you have been on this earth, I sure as heck couldn’t have done much better! Come on, people, don’t be so quick with the insults…it says a heck of a lot more about you than your target.

Are You Crazy? on

What kind of drugs are they taking at UNGARO? Yes, we’re talking about your brand which is press, but realize it’s only because we wouldn’t be caught dead being associated with it now. There is such a thing as bad press afterall. Which way to the burn barrel?

Diana on

Lindsay told TheFABlife, “It’s not good to show your nipples so they should be covered.” Heart-shaped pasties are totally the best way to do it, too!

Terri on

LOSER

Angela on

You guys don’t get it. I didn’t even know Lohan had a collection until this story broke out. She’s a genius.

scar2 on

The real reason for the disaster is the fact that she’s not a designer.

Jules66 on

I agree SoTrue2710! My goodness!I am not a fan either but, do we not have anything BETTER to talk about!!! She is a creative consultant, obviously YOU people do not know a thing about fashion design!!! She lends her name to the line. She doesn’t design it,style it or send the girls out onto the runway. You posters need to get a life!!!!!

Shiloh13 on

I saw the photos from the so-called “fashion” show. OMG!! They were horrible. I could have done better than that and I don’t really keep up with fashion. It all looked like junk and I agree Lindsey needs to take responsibility. She is no designer and has no style of her own. Don’t let her do anything else!! Bad mistake by the company who hired her. She did not make me want to run out and buy anything that I saw. We are getting TMI about Lindsey Lohan. Keep her out of the headlines!

Laurel on

Does Lindsay REALLY think the “I’m-so-cute-it-doesn’t-matter-if-I’m-ditzy” persona will get her through the next 60 years of life???

sheyla on

I will never buy anything that Lindsay Lohan has endorsed; movies, music, fashion…NOTHING

fabulous on

it’s not only her fault there was other people involed to. it could happen to any one else but we wouldn’t be talking about them. the only reason we talk about this is because it’s lohan and she hasn’t been normal for a while.

Angel on

People are like that keep blaming others. Like you guys keep blaming Linsay Lohan. Look…to put up a fashion show is not easy and especially so many people were involved. Why blame Lindsay for…?? Think…before pointing at her.

Mrs.Nutt on

Money does not buy you taste, or class, or brains.
It does, however, buy you lots of cocaine. This is what LL knows. Go with what you know.

Leigh Ann on

LAUGHTABLE! It’s all laughable. First Ungaro picks an unadmirable train wreck in Lindsay Lohan to be a “muse” and then Lindsay won’t own up to being utterly tasteless. I agree with the others that Ungaro has damaged the brand and that Lindsay Lohan is a poor excuse of a person, let alone as a designer. Pathetic.

NATALIA on

What was Ungaro thinking!!!! Lindsay is not a good image for any luxury brand, and she did not know about the collection because she didn´t work on it, sure!!!!!!!

spell on

Do not blame Lohan for being Lohan. Blame Ungaro for totally destroying a good brand. Remember that brand loyalty is gained in drops and lost in gallons.

Also blame everyone who is surprised she messed it up. Being surprised that she did a bad job is about as revealing as my dog being surprised the sun came up today.

Anna on

If you get a wonderful assignment as an artistic advisor with Ungaro for which you are likely to be very well paid, and if the time is short, then as an adult, you can make the choice to work day and night, to put in extra hours, and do the best job you can.
Or you can be like Lindsay Lohan, stay up all night partying hard, cash in the money and blame the time crunch for her poor job.
This young person has no idea what hard work means. When she will be done ridiculing herself and she’ll be blacklisted in Hollywood and in the fashion industry, what will she do? Whatever money she has now will be gone soon enough. And then what?
I’m really sorry for this poor girl who’s so messed up. And outraged also that those close to her will let her destroy herself without doing anything.

Carol on

Seems to me they are blaming LL for the disaster of Ungara…didn’t someone oversee her? She didn’t even know the girls had pasties…come on peeps!! I’m sure she’ll shine on her next collection, give her a break! If this was your kid, would any of you diss her and send her to her room? Probably not!!! gesh, give her a break at least she’s trying different things. More than what I’m sure most of you are doing. GO LL!!

Gina on

I’m confused wasn’t is people.com who reports what a success her show was??? Get your story straight people!!!

PR on

Wow, she looks much older than 23, more like 33. I suppose it’s all the hard living this girl has already done. Lindsay should take a page from the Britney Spears book and go ahead and clean up her life. The only difference is that Britney has talent.

Gerianne on

Look, she gave her name to the disaster, regardless of whether she sat at a sewing machine, pointed to a picture or phoned it in. You’d better belive if the collection turned out to be the toast of fashion week, she’d be claiming responsibility. She needs to grow up, own up and clean up.

irish on

She’s know what her schedule was if she would quit drinking, drugs and spending the night tweeting about how much she loves Sam!! She needs to grow up and take responsibility for her own life….based on her parents, she doesn’t stand a chance in he**!

Justine on

Actually, right after the show Lindsay was quoted saying something along the lines of “Girls need to learn cover their nips” to explain the pasties, as if it was a great idea….which it clearly was not. And saying she came in so late and didn’t have time to do the whole collection isn’t really the best way to get along w/the designers and anyone else she’ll have to continue to worth with at Ungaro.

Why didn’t Ungaro hire someone who all ready “learned” fashion design? There are so many people with talent, education and experience who’d be able to excel at this job, but they go for the tabloid headline famous for being atrocious.

If that’s what you hire, that’s what you get.

What a drag. Even supposedly “real businesses” have succumbed to the world as a reality show nightmare – where audacity, narcissism and bad behavior have supplanted talent and skill.
