Elizabeth Hurley: Truly “Fabulous at Every Age”

Courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar

Looking super fabulous (at 44 years old) in a slinky Roberto Cavalli dress and Rene Caovilla sparkly heels, Elizabeth Hurley was “thrilled” to host Harper’s Bazaar‘s “Fabulous At Every Age” party and book launch Thursday evening. The event, held at Hearst Tower in New York, honored five women representing ages 20 to 60-something. Hurley, the international face of Estée Lauder, enthused, “When they asked me to come host the event, I was thrilled, really thrilled. I really believe passionately that women can look fabulous whatever age they are.” What’s Hurley’s secret to looking so fabulous? “When you’re older, you have to have your hair cut regularly, you have to pluck your eyebrows regularly, you have to stay slim, and you have to exercise more,” she said. “It gets a little harder, but the rewards are better because more people give up. So if you don’t give up, you stand out more.” In addition to promoting Breast Cancer Awareness and modeling, Hurley is busy launching an organic foods line next week in England, called Elizabeth Hurley Organic Snacks. “I’m so embarrassed!” she said with a laugh, about the title. “It’s the same when I did my beach line. I had to say Elizabeth Hurley Beach. It seems, sort of, unimaginative. Took me a long time to come up with that title!” —Kristin Larson

Tamara Mellon and Jimmy Choo Go Charitable with Project Pep

Matt Crossick/EMPICS Entertainment/Abaca

Jimmy Choo Founder and President Tamara Mellon stepped out in London last night to host the global launch party of the brand’s ‘Project PEP’. The limited edition collection with its rock ‘n’ roll, punk-inspired print will raise funds for the Simelela Rape Centre in Cape Town, a project started by Mellon and the Elton John Aids Foundation in 2005.  “When you buy one of these products here tonight, it will release the PEP medication straight to the women in Africa,” Mellon told PEOPLE as she greeted guests such as Guy Ritchie and bikini designer, Melissa Odabash, who was modeling the sky high gladiator ‘PEP Loop’ heels. Jimmy Choo will donate 25% of the net sales from this capsule collection to fund the pioneering centre where rape victims exposed to HIV are given anti-retroviral drugs to stop the virus developing. “I went to South Africa earlier this year, and I’m planning another trip in 2010,” said Mellon, adding “It was emotional but it was also an uplifting experience to see that this really does make a difference, it takes the shame away from these women.” So how does the multi-tasking Mellon, who has a H&M collaboration launching next month and a perfume in the works, juggle all of this with charity work and bringing up her 7-year-old daughter Araminta: “I don’t know!” she laughs, “I do enjoy several coffees in the morning, that tends to keep me going.” The collection is available worldwide from 4th November or buy online at jimmychoo.com.

Lady Gaga To Be Honored With Accessories Award

Eaglepress/INF

Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga — what will you don next? Her wild wardrobe choices and over-the-top accoutrements — hats, sunglasses, bags, gloves, she wears it all, often at once! –will be recognized Monday with a Stylemaker Award at the 13th annual Accessories Council Exchange, known as the ACE Awards. Her pal Marc Jacobs, a Designer of the Year winner in 2007, will present the award to Gaga. “As an artist, she’s well-appointed in accessories. Just when you thought you saw everything in originality, there she is again. People anticipate what she’s going to wear and it’s exciting to see accessories as such a meaningful part of someone’s wardrobe,” said Karen Giberson, president of ACE. “Whether it’s her hat or gloves, she’s always well-appointed.” Other honorees at the awards gala, taking place at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York, include: Diane von Furstenberg with an Accessory Visionary Award, Tomas Maier of Bottega Veneta as Designer of the Year, Burberry as Brand of the Year, Barbie as Fashion Icon, and InStyle‘s Hal Rubenstein with a Fashion Journalism award. –Kristin Larson

Nicole Richie‘s new contemporary clothing line Winter Kate doesn’t debut until February but she’s already got one customer lined up: boyfriend Joel Madden. “Her clothing line is what she wears — bohemian rock and roll, hippie, sexy and comfortable clothes for women. It’s cool, but it’s not forced.” And he’s not just a fan of the line. “I love Nicole’s style. She’s the coolest person I’ve ever met, and she doesn’t try at all,” he told PEOPLE recently as Nicole listened on with a proud smile, “Thanks, honey!” she replied. “I designed everything and picked the materials and prints. I put my heart and soul into it.” Read more about the line, which is named after the couple’s 21-month old daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden, here.–Lisa Ingrassia
