VIDEO: Go Backstage with Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier

With New York Fashion Week about to begin, who isn’t in the mood for a little peek behind-the-seams? Four of fashion’s most influential designers are bringing their sartorial talents to video with The Day Before, a four-part series on the Sundance Channel from French producer Loic Prigent, which condenses the frantic 36 hours leading up to each designers’ runway show into four one-hour episodes. The series kicks off in Paris with Sonia Rykiel for the design house’s 40th anniversary runway show, before hopping to New York for Proenza Schouler, Milan where Karl Lagerfeld presents his Fendi collection, and ending back in Paris for the Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture show. The series premiered last night in N.Y.C to a star-studded group, including a Proenza Schouler-clad Leighton Meester and Rachel Zoe. Check out our exclusive first look at Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier before the show’s debut tonight, and then go to SundanceChannel.com to see more from the newly relaunched Full Frontal Fashion.

Lindsay Lohan on Being the New Artistic Advisor for Ungaro: “Different Generations Have Different Ideas”

Marion Curtis/Startraks

Not one to be content with her burgeoning leggings and self-tanner businesses — not to mention her acting career — Lindsay Lohan is joining Emanuel Ungaro as “artistic adviser” alongside a new chief designer Estrella Archs, according to Women’s Wear Daily. Lohan tells WWD that her vision is to take Ungaro to a “younger place” with a harder fashion edge. “When I’m involved in a project, I give my all to it,” she tells WWD. “I’ve always played a big part in what I wear, the costumes. Clothing is something that’s so expressive in so many ways…To be in a position where I’m working with a fashion house in Paris sets it apart from every other celebrity brand.” So then, what exactly does “Artistic Advisor” entail? Lohan describes her position to WWD as that she “kind of oversees everything [Archs] does, while working with her. Different generations have different ideas.” But don’t expect Hollywood excess. “Every woman wants to be sexy — without being too much,” she explains. “I want it to be simple and easy. I really think less is more — and you can add on more with accessories.” Mounir Moufarrige, Ungaro’s chief executive officer, is thrilled about the level of publicity that Lindsay can bring to the venerable French design house, which counts stars like Eva Longoria Parker and Rachel McAdams among its current clientele. He tells WWD, “Everything we’re going to get is going to be a plus. I think the noise level around Lindsay will be very, very big.” Rumor has it that Lohan will take her first runway bow alongside Archs at the brand’s October 4 show during Paris Fashion Week. We can’t wait to see the finished product hit the catwalk. See more at WWD.com.

Victoria Beckham Talks L.A. Style, $2,000 Dresses and Gossip Girl with Elle

Tom Munro/Courtesy of Elle Magazine

Though Victoria Beckham has become a Hollywood staple since moving from England several years ago, there are some things about Tinsletown that still baffle the Brit. “I find it odd that people will go to a nice restaurant or to [the] theater in jeans and T-shirts,” the Elle cover girl dishes to the magazine. “You know, it’s great, David loves it. But it’s very different to my personal style.” And while L.A.’s laid back look work for her hunky husband, Victoria is not about to become a surfer girl. “I haven’t changed the way that I dress at all, which is probably why people stare a lot.” Victoria might not have morphed into a typical Hollywood celebrity, but that, she says, is what keeps people interested. “There are celebrities who always look great, always look pretty, but it’s always the same hair, the same makeup, and I find that quite boring. I want to change it up, do something really creative. I think that might be why women like me.” Turns out, women really do like Victoria’s style as stores can barely keep up with the demand for her designs, despite the high prices. “Would I think twice about buying a dress that costs $2,000? Yeah! Of course I would. I’d try it on and go home and think about it before I bought it,” defends Posh. She might not be ready to change into jeans, but Victoria is definitely embracing something else very American– prime time television! While David was away for six months playing soccer in Milan, Victoria indulged in some of our favorite shows. “I’ve done Nip/Tuck, Brothers & Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice. Then I got into Gossip Girl. I’m beyond obsessed with that show,” Victoria admits. Gossip Girl and Victoria Beckham — now that’s a fashion match made in heaven. Producers, are you listening? Michelle Obama Talks Fries, Fashion and Family Dinner with Women’s Health

Robert Galbraith/Landov

When First Lady Michelle Obama sat down for exclusive interview with Women’s Health, she revealed not only why she takes good health (and healthcare) so seriously but also her grounded attitude towards fashion and dieting. “My father had multiple sclerosis, so I never took health for granted, because I saw a father that at the prime of his life was struck with an illness that completely changed his life,” the First Lady reveals. But she recounts happy childhood memories with rare and fun nights eating out with her family. “We couldn’t afford to go out to dinner, so [it] was a rare treat. We would have a theater class on Saturdays, and [afterward] if Dad turned left we were going to McDonald’s, and if he turned right we were going home, and we’d always go, “Go left, Dad! Go left!” The few times he went left, it was like Christmas!” Michelle also sees the value of eating pizza and ice cream more rarely due to economic need. “Those values — even though they were the result of economic circumstances — were really good, and they created some pretty healthy boundaries about food.” Not that she doesn’t love the occasional diet-breaker. “I do love a good burger and fries. French fries are my favorite food in the whole world. If I could, I’d eat them at every meal — but I can’t. My whole thing is moderation. If I make good, healthy choices most of the time, then having what I love every once in a while won’t hurt.” And she values the importance of eating together as a family, even at the White House. Mrs. Obama explains, “Dad’s office is just downstairs, and it’s rare that we don’t have dinner together. No matter what’s going on, he sets aside that time. Dinner time is at 6:30 p.m., and he comes in, we sit down.” That’s not the only way the First Lady works to feel good. She says of her famous fashion choices, “For me fashion is fun, and it’s supposed to help you feel good about yourself. I think that’s what all women should focus on: what makes them happy and feel comfortable and beautiful. I wear what I love. Sometimes people like it, sometimes they don’t. I’m fine with that.” Read more from the First Lady, including tips on her workout from her trainer, in this month’s issue of Women’s Health.

EXCLUSIVE: Troy Polamalu On Hair, Heroes and Being the New Spokesperson for Head & Shoulders

Courtesy of Head & Shoulders

Lindsay Lohan and Taylor Swift aren’t the only celebs known for rocking cascading ringlets — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is as famous as any Hollywood starlet for his head of curly hair. And he’s putting his hair care knowledge to good use with a new role as the spokesperson for Head & Shoulders and their campaign to raise awareness for Operation Once in a Life Time, which helps soldiers in need. When it came to fronting a hair care campaign, the choice was easy for the NFL star, he tells PEOPLE. “Being of Samoan decent, in my culture hair is a sign of power and strength so I keep mine long and curly,” he explains. “But with my rigorous training and having to wear my helmet all the time, I usually experience dryness and scalp itch.” His solution? “Believe it or not, my favorite product is Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky, because it helps to control my frizz.” But beyond endorsing the product itself, Troy enjoys the philanthropic aspect of his new role, telling PEOPLE, “Many people think I’m a hero, but I think the true heroes are the men and women of the armed forces who risk their lives every day. To thank them, Head & Shoulders and I are partnering with Operation Once In a Lifetime, an organization dedicated to helping all service men and women, to grant the wishes of seven soldiers and donate thousands of dollars worth of Head & Shoulders product. I’m excited to give back — but the opportunity is there for everyone to help.” So just how can fans help? “At my Web site, Troytacklesmore.com, anyone can donate one dollar on behalf of myself and Head & Shoulders to fulfill the dreams of the seven soldiers.”
