Lauren Conrad Dishes on Style, Exercise and the “Boyfriend Layer”

Courtesy of Shape Magazine

She might be a bona fide California beach girl, but even Lauren Conrad admits to slacking in the exercise department sometimes. For her second Shape cover (her first was January 2008), the New York Times best-selling author chats about her romance with actor Kyle Howard and her new clothing line for Kohl’s while sitting pretty for three very different cover shots. At the beginning of her relationship, Lauren admits to getting soft around the middle. “I call it the ‘boyfriend layer’,” she tells the magazine. “We were having more romantic dinners out, and I was exercising less.” So what’s a girl to do? Take your dates to the gym, of course! “I just ask Kyle, ‘You feel like working out?’ It’s more fun than hitting the gym alone,” says Lauren. The couple spends most of their time outdoors anyway. “We like doing outdoor stuff: tennis, bike riding, kayaking, stand-up surfing, hiking in the canyons around L.A.,” says Lauren. And when the happy couple isn’t exercising together, Lauren is busy working on her newest adventure in design, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s, which will hit stores in October. Her line of affordable and flattering jeans and blouses will be perfect for every shape. “It’s all about finding silhouettes that highlight the best parts of your figure,” says Lauren. As an added bonus, Lauren took three lucky Shape readers with very different body types shopping and shared some fashion advice with them. Pick up the September issue of Shape to hear more of Lauren’s advice on dressing for your body and working out.

Oprah Dishes on Meeting Jay-Z: “He Smelled So Good!”

Look out, Beyonce! Another Hollywood A-lister is a big fan of your man — or at least the way he smells. On a recent call with her best friend Gayle King on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Oprah Radio, Oprah Winfrey dished about her favorite mogul. “Jay-Z is my new best friend!” the talk show host said to Gayle while discussing her recent two-hour interview with him for her magazine, O. Admitting that she’s not a huge fan of his music, Oprah does reveal what about him does have her hooked. “He was so charming and delightful — and he smelled so good,” she says. “It’s the kind of thing where you hug a guy and the scent is sort of buried in them,” she explains. “When we went to the second location I could still smell him on me it was like, ‘oh my, this is wonderful!’” Jay has reason to take scent seriously. In addition to heading up music labels, a club, a sports team and the Rocawear clothing line, Jay-Z is also a perfumer, having already produced the scent Rocawear 9 IX. And next month Oprah — and all Jay-Z fans — will have even more reason to celebrate when he launches X Rocawear fragrance in celebration of the label’s 10th anniversary. Listen here to hear more of Gayle’s interview with Oprah. Then tell us: What Hollywood man do you imagine smells great?

EXCLUSIVE: Kenny Chesney Launches Laidback Clothing Line

Frederick Breedon/Getty

For Kenny Chesney (and his fans), “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” isn’t just a song, it’s a way of life. And now the country star is launching a clothing line, Blue Chair Bay, that captures his laidback style. The pieces — for men and women — are designed to look and feel like “that favorite T-shirt that you’ve washed a lot that is kind of sun bleached… your favorite khakis, and your shirt that you’ve had forever,” he tells PEOPLE. (Naturally, there are worn-in baseball caps, too.) Chesney was so involved in the design process that he even name-checks friends on some of the items. “I’ve got a shirt that says “Bob’s Charter” and Bob is a buddy of mine that’s been living in the islands for a long time.” Sure, not everyone can live in the Caribbean like Chesney, but he hopes his new mid-priced line (ranging from $35 for a T-shirt to $72 for khakis) — which is currently being sold at Fast Buck Freddies in Key West, Ocean Eddie’s Resort Wear in Gulf Shores, Ala., and Levy’s in Nashville — prompts people to use their imagination. “Blue Chair Bay is kind of like the place we’d all like to go if we had no obligations or nowhere to be,” he says, “and that’s kind of what I want this clothing line to represent. These are the clothes I would pack to go to this place.” Count us in! — Joey Bartolomeo</p
