Would You Pair Dark Lips with Smoky Eyes Like Diane Kruger?

08/14/2009 at 01:09 PM ET

Flynet

Dark eye shadow and bold lips are the biggest trends of the upcoming fall season, but the classic oft-repeated rule of makeup artists is to choose either a strong eye or lip but never, ever both at once. But the ever-fashionable Diane Kruger defied this cosmetic commandment by pairing a dark matte lipstick with a dramatic smoky eye for the Inglourious Basterds premiere in Berlin and looked pretty darn amazing. But, like many of Diane’s looks, this may be one better left to stylish former-models. We want to know: What do you think about the combination? Would you wear a dark eye shadow with a bold lipstick?

She looks gorgeous! Fantastic make-up job! Bravo! Fabalissimo! Wonderful! Hooray! You look beeeeeeeeee-utiful! You are so beautiful! You don’t need a stylist. You’re great with make-up!

It’s a good thing this is going to be all the rage…I’ve been rockin’ it for quite some time. Some girls NEED it, know’msayin’?

Granted, when I went as a Robert Palmer Girl for Halloween recently, someone said, “I thought you were dressing UP for Halloween!”. Sigh.

I like both the looks but they need to be worn seperately. If she wanted to go with a smoky eye look she should’ve paired it with a nude gloss. And for the dark lips…keep the rest of the makeup soft and simple. (cough, cough no dark eye)

I think it’s too much of a goth look….unless that’s what she’s trying to achieve:S…and it clashes with her dress.

i usually go with one or the other..but she pulls it off very nicely especially that her outfit seems to be very light in terms of color.

No because it makes her look tired & used.

I absolutely love that look and have been doing it for about a year! Granted, I’m always going against the “Rules” of what professionals or others think (I’m an aesthetician/makeup artist). Sometimes the results are absolutely gorgeous (see Diane’s look above)and other times, I make sure I have my wipe-offs close at hand to take care of the mess. My advice – your face is your canvas, your makeup & brushes are your paint – have fun and see what works for you because sometimes there are looks that YOU can pull off that on someone else would look clownlike! The most important Rule to me is to HAVE FUN!

FOR AS LONG AS IT WON’T OVERWHELM ONE’S FEATURES AND PERSONALITY, IT’S BASICALLY FINE..
