Gwyneth Paltrow on GOOP: “Corporate America is Knocking On My Door!”

07/30/2009 at 02:46 PM ET

Soul Brother/FilmMagic

Move over, O magazine and Martha Stewart Living. GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s weekly newsletter packed with clean and green advice on loving, living and cooking is a “big success,” according to Paltrow.  “It’s crazy.  . . . crazy!” Paltrow chatted exclusively with PEOPLE about the site at the Children of the City‘s Champions of Hope Benefit Gala at the Tribeca Rooftop last night in N.Y.C.  “I just love it. Corporate America is knocking at my door. . . . ‘Will you hawk my product’?” The answer is clearly no for the star’s very personal project, which even derives its name from her initials G.P. “It started in such an organic way.  People ask me, ‘What is it?  What are you doing?’ And I don’t know.  I did it, am doing it  . . . and I love doing it. It is really just a place to disseminate good information,” said the Preen-clad Paltrow. “People are so grateful that it’s free.  It’s just nice to share what you have.  And I have all this great information. It’s just a gift.  People want me to do all this other stuff. But right now, I just really love doing the site.  I love thinking about the letters, what I’m going to write about, what kind of information we can put in there.”

So will Paltrow follow in Paul Newman’s footsteps with his Newman’s Own empire, which raised $250 million dollars in his lifetime for charity? “We’ll do something and give it all back,” she tells PEOPLE exclusively.  But for now, the site, which she creates along with two hands-on staffers, has only two cardinal rules. “No bribes.  Also, I won’t say anything negative.  If I eat somewhere or stay somewhere and it’s horrible, I won’t talk about it,” she said. While she has addressed everything from cleansing to frenemies on the site, she’s not about to take on rumors about her personal life on GOOP. “I never address that side of me there,” she insisted. “It is really a place to disseminate good information.” And it’s not the only way that Paltrow is doing good — she is also a board member of Robin Hood, an organization in part founded by the late John F. Kennedy Jr., which raises money from successful New Yorkers and donates to causes such as Children of the City, the beneficiary of last night’s gala .  “They’re really changing lives for kids in New York City at the poverty level or below. They do amazing work. I’m from New York, so any time I get approached to help in a great organization, I can never say no.” Click here to check out GOOP.com for yourself! – Jeffrey Slonim

really really really really really really really SICK OF GWYNETH PALTROW!!!!!!!!!!!

Ula on

I find Gwyneth kind of sweet… in a naive and over-indulged kind of way. But I honestly think her heart is in a good place, it’s just not necessary in my place. As she is fond of pointing out, the rich are different.

Jenna on

Right. She is the LAST person I would take advice from, on anything, much less “living, loving and cooking.” She is so full of herself.

R. J. on

Agreed. Really not impressed with her.

Daria on

I like GOOP a lot and think she’s lovely.

Dee on

Her looks are fading and she seems desperate. I never liked the stuck up beotch.

I seriously doubt that anyone is knocking at her door.
She is just Brad Pitt’s discarded toy and passalong.

Why be so negative about someone who is doing something she enjoys? If it wasn’t successful for her, she wouldn’t be doing it. Who cares that she is rich or even if she weren’t. She’s sharing her experiences and there are plenty of people who are interested in her. Get over it.

Gwen on

Her looks are fading….yeah, right!

The woman has so much going for her. She’s gorgeous, smart (actually has a vocab) and hilarious. Plus rich, talented and married with kids.

You guys are jealous.

It’s refreshing to know that there are still some people out there that strive to keep things positive. I have received a lot of helpful information from GOOP, much of which has helped me to evolve my opinions and gain a larger perspective on things. The recipes aren’t bad either! Good Karma!

Sandra on

I subscribe to GOOP, and love it. Why are people commenting negativly about Gwyneth Paltrow as a person? Your comments are out of line (and off subject for that matter.) It does not appear any of you even read any of the GOOP newsletters. Too bad for you- they are great. I only wish I could create something as wonderful! Good on you GP.

Cynthia R on

Wasn’t it not so long ago she was talking about how much she loved Europe, compared to America. If anyone is knocking her doors down, it should be to deport her butt. Who cares, she’s a has been!

Steff on

It is so immature to bad-mouth someone you don’t know. Have they wronged you because they are highly successful and beautiful? Would you like people to ridicule you when they haven’t even exchanged one word with you. Live your life, but treat others how you would like to be treated.

Gwen on

These were her comments regarding Spain. It’s all true and not disparaging in any way.

“It is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible,” she tells the Associated Press.

“Also, the way people live over there. They seem to enjoy life a little bit more,” she continued. “They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family. They don’t always have their BlackBerry on.”

zk on

Love love love Gwyn!!!! I don’t get the haters……she’s beautiful, talented, trying to help in her own way, and full of great advice.

Americans love to hate beautiful successful people who travel the world and learn about other cultures, for some reason. Insecure much?

You should be….because the world is a magnificent place, and with only 7% of Americans having passports, well….that certainly explains ALOT.

Love Gwyneth, Love GOOP!

Love Gwyneth and love GOOP!!!!!!!!

i haven’t seen goop yet for myself but i’m real curious now to check it out.she is a beautiful and talented actress,a good wife and great mother who is a lot better off without a washed up brad pitt.he may seem like he has alot going for him,but he’s living with angelina, they won’t get married even with all those kids they have, probably because he doesn’t believe in god.he is is own god, i guess.now there is someone who is full of himself.

Cynthia R on

Steff, it called “freedom of speech”.

Lola on

First she disrespects America, then she says corporate America is knocking on her door. She’s not fooling any of us. If she did represent something, I would make a point of not buying it.

If don’t like the site then don’t go on it. I think its positive and don’t see what all the hate towards Gwyneth is about. Boy, you people are miserable. I like her and the site and its cute and fun to look at. Maybe if some of you people had a life then you might be happy too and don’t need to bash an actress on her site. You people are sad!

BarCadiz on

She is so out of touch with the real world. She is slightly delusional. She is a snob but not as bad as other celebrities.

LBW on

All that I have heard from her is about her cleansing program. She’s talking about enemas! Is that the best she has got?

abbyreph on

I absolutely love GOOP and Gwyneth!

Yes, she can be elitist, but at least she lets people in on her secrets and is light-hearted about it.

connie on

I think what Gwyneth is doing is great.

Love her ideas. I’m looking forward to trying them.

Belle550 on

I have been a big Gwyneth fan for a long time- People who bash her are just simply jealous I think. I think she does have it all & i like GOOP. So really if you don’t like her, don’t read Goop. I wish her a ton of success not that she’ll need it…

Diandra on

I so appreciate Gwyneth sharing her knowledge and experience. She is a kind, caring person. I have downloaded her personal exercise trainers routine and Gwyneth demonstrating how to bone a chicken onto my ipod. I have printed most of her weekly e-mails for future use…..It gives me a good feeling to know that there are people like her, willing to make things better for other people. diandra

Chris on

She really needs to get over herself.

Wow, so much negativity in these posts! I agree with Daria…I really, really, really, really, really enjoy Goop and I also think Gwyneth’s lovely.

GOOP is a great newsletter – full of interesting information –last issue was book recommendations, others have include restaurant info, receipes, etc… Why you gotta trash Gwyneth? and why stoop SO LOW as to focus on her LOOKS? how shallow can you be. Here’s a news flash.. you don’t want it, don’t subscribe to it – and don’t trash something you don’t know anything about — especially by jumping into the gutter and talking about someone’s looks – the newsletter is not about her looks, or her family or her career or anything else you might be sick of… and again.. YOU DON’T HAVE TO READ IT! get over yourselves..

Charu on

Is there anything more annoying than rich people who don’t have a care in the world telling you how to spend your money and time? She’s a hack. Her husband is a plagiarist and her children are likely to be as lame and disconnected as she is.

what? on

Don’t judge—-GOOP is actually really awesome. Thought I’d check it out one day and I’m totally hooked. It has a little bit of everything.

Brooke on

I love Goop…I have been a subscribr for a while and I absolutely love it. I think Gwyneth imparts great advice on the site. Okay, the “William” Joel thing made me laugh though….

JLJ on

Geez, some of you are a bit pissy. GP can’t help it if she was raised by two parents who loved her and educated her. She can’t help it if she is rich, sexy, talented, cultured and can speak a bunch of romantic languages…really well. If you spent more time cultivating your own talents,
you would have less time to be…bitter.

I like Goop, it’s fun and take what you want from it kind of place. Bottom line if GP wanted to be friends with all those nay-sayers they would break an ankle jumping at the chance.

….Corp. America knocking at her door. Surely she jests…as in a joke.

How can u b sick of Gwyneth Paltrow? She is awesome!

kbe on

I’ve always admired Blyth Danner and wondered why she never became the superstar she should have been. I think her daughter is a great reflection of her.

Linda on

I have been a fan of GP. I think she’s a remarkable woman. Her website is amazing. Full of useful information. I can’t understand why people are bashing her and her website. Didn’t their mother tell them that if they don’t have anything nice to say, to just not say anything at all? It’s just common etiquette. And don’t go hiding behind the freedom of speech thing, because it’s not working. I don’t think she’s ever done anything personally hurtful to any of the readers. I’m just dismayed as to how people react to someone who is obviously successful, talented and has a kind heart. GP’s parents taught her well. Well done, GP.

[...] was an amazing person? You didn’t? How could you not? Everyone wants a piece of Paltrow. People says: GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s weekly newsletter is a “big success,” according to Paltrow. [...]

Lena on

Let me preface my opinions first by saying that I am not jealous of Gwyneth. I think that she is a wonderful actress and very talented.
However, I found her newsletters to be boring. I also think that for the average, middle-American, some of her suggestions are soooo expensive and outside of what most can afford. I am an avid reader of fashion magazines so I know that a Tod’s or Balenciaga handbag can cost upwards of $1500 or more. Then, she writes about being frumpy but suggests that one goes around wearing leggings and slippers. What?!
I wish her well in her endeavors, but I truly believe that she should stick to acting.

Jen on

I really enjoy GOOP & I think Gwyneth is great. She is a down to earth, working mother who happens to be a rich & famous…so what. She seems to be a true New Yorker at heart & this comes thru on her website. If you are a NYC mom you will definitely appreciate it.

Collette on

To the commenter who claims the critics are “jealous”, allow me to correct you on two counts: first off, you incorrectly used the word jealous. Jealousy is a resentful suspicion that someone else has what rightfully belongs to the jealous person. The word you are looking for is “envious.” Envy is the desire for something that someone else has, or a feeling of ill will over another person’s advantages in general.

And guess what: NONE OF US IS EITHER JEALOUS OR ENVIOUS of this woman. We’re simply fed up with her annoying self-righteous ramblings. Her “suggestions” for how life a fabulous life are nothing more than thinly-veiled boasting.

Get over yourself already!
