Solange Knowles’s new cropped hairstyle has caused an internet storm, sending her to the number three spot on Twitter‘s “Trending Topics,” which tracks the popularity of subjects people are discussing on the site. And the singer is taking her own Twitter page to express her bafflement at all the attention. “i. was. simply. taking. my. son. to. school,” she writes of the images that came out this morning revealing her shorn hairstyle. She goes on to explain that it’s not the first time she’s tried the look: “i. have. done. this. twice. in. my. life. i. was 16. i was 18. did. not care about your opinion. then. dont. care. now.” But the singer, who is an AIDS awareness activist, expresses her distress that the attention given to her new look is taking precedence over more serious news. “ONLY reason i responded to this i have is because i was disappointed to see my name more talked about then #iranelection,” she explains. And in fact, she says that the new look is more about practicality than fashion. “dont. want. a. edge. up. or a perm. because. im not trying. to make this “a style” or a statement,” she explains. “i. just. wanted. to. be. free. from. the. bondage. that. black. women sometimes. put. on. themselves. with. hair.” Tell us: What do you think of Solange’s frank attitude about the attention over her hair change?

Shakespear said it best: “TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE” Solange – DO YOUR THING!!! There are more important things for people to be concerned with than the natural beauty black women possess up under all the wigs and weaves. I love it, but then, my opinion matters just as much as those that hate it.

WOW!! I decided to take a look at the 28 postings after I sent my first one. You idiots are so shallow and superficial!!! Why does it have to be a cry for attention; competition or a shot at Beyonce; copying someone you consider to have “done it first”??? All it is, is the NATURAL look of a BLACK WOMAN….THAT’S IT!!! All of you negative, need to impress, hecklers need to GET OVER YOURSELVES – How do you feel about Health Care? AIDS Awareness? Get a life!!!

If she’s really ditching the relaxers then she had to cut all of the perm out out her hair. More Black women need to follow suit and get rid of the relaxers. Women of all colors need to stop with the hair dyes and all other chemicals we put in to our hair because it’s not healthy! Studies have shown women who dye their hair were at more risk of developing cancer than women who have never dyed their hair. There are natural ways to dye our hair and Black girls you can get a blow out if you want to wear it straight. Us women need to stop putting chemicals in our hair!

Since Solange is “setting herself free from the bondage that black women put on themselves with hair” then this should mean that we will no longer see her out & about in weaves or wigs since she will be rockin’ her natural hair. Let’s see if that will be the case or not. Why do I doubt it??

AS LONG AS SHE CAN STAND BEHIND WHAT SHE SAYS… IM ALL FOR IT. ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HER. HER LIFE IS HERS, ALONG WITH HER HAIR. BUT AGAIN YOU ARE NOT YOUR HAIR. SO DO YOU SOLANGE. I LOVE IT.

Solange Knowles has the right to wear her hair anyway she wants. I agree with her, there are more important issues in this cruel world besides giving so much attention to someone cutting all of their hair off. I just don’t understand, let Solange just be herself.

I think that she looks nice and free. I am a black women so I understand what Solange is saying about black women always wearing weaves to look beautiful and afraid to show are natural hair. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE AND NOT JUST HOW YOU LOOK. SO STOP HATIN ON SOLANGE!!!!!

Its her hair and she can do with it what she pleases. If she gets tired of her new look she can always buy some more hair.
