Why knock someone for what they give each other for an anniversary gift. Is it just the fact that you are jealous. This is a tradition that her husband started, she didn’t demand that he do so. It is not their fault that the economy is in the state that it is in and how they spend their money is their choice. It is not a requirement or the law that if you have extra money you are expected to help anyone else to bail out the economy. Just get over the jealousy and let them spend money the way they see fit.

I think it’s sad when people have nothing better to do than criticize other people’s good fortune. It’s their money and they’re free to do whatever they want with it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about donating and doing charity work, but I’m also not going to stop giving to my family just so that I can get the ATTENTION and PRAISE for doing work for others. As far as the example being set for their children… THE BEST THING THAT A DADDY CAN DO FOR HIS KIDS IS TO BE IN LOVE WITH THEIR MOMMY, which he obviously does.

Ok, so this is a nice tradition between two people who love each other. But for all the people who are before me who said they should donate the money to others in need. First of all, it’s their money and what they do with it is up to them. I am sure they have a lot of money, and not donating it to others is not selfish it’s theirs. They worked hard for more than half of it so back off and let them be a happily married couple with tons of diamond rings!

I don’t like the ring, I don’t think that it is that beautiful. I don’t think that this is much of a tradition either, because there isn’t a surprise every year, except for what this year’s ring will look like. What happens the year that there isn’t a ring, or they go broke? I guess they will be able to sell the rings from previous years……

I find it hilarious that people just assume that celebrities blow all their wealth on themselves and don’t donate to the less fortunate, when in fact, we really have no idea what their charitable donations are. Whether or not someone chooses to make their charitable contributions publicly known is up to them.

Furthermore, people (celebrities and “normal” people alike) have the right to spend to their own money as they please. No one should have to be criticized for their own spending habits.

I agree – I sure could use the money he spent on any ring besides the first one. Obviously her wedding ring is not sacred or sentimental to her and she’s only interested in next years bling. Let me have some of those old rings and I’ll financially stabilize my family instead of living hand to mouth. THIS INFURIATES ME!

Why assume that the McDermotts don’t give plenty to charitable causes?

Just because he chooses to honor his wife with a lovely ring each year doesn’t automatically exclude them giving to those in need.

I have no dog in this hunt, as I have never seen their show or read her books…but it dismays me that they are reviled for spending their own money on themselves whether or not they are giving to others. Some people prefer to keep their charitable contributions between them, the recipients, and Uncle Sam.
