PEOPLE magazine’s Most Beautiful person of the year, Christina Applegate, is using her beauty for a good cause. The breast cancer survivor is the 2009 Ambassador for Lee National Denim Day to support the fight against the disease — and PEOPLE.com has an exclusive first look at her stunning campaign shot. As part of charity effort, which is one of the country’s largest single-day fundraisers for breast cancer, the Samantha Who? star is asking companies to get casual for the cause and encourage their employees to wear jeans to work on Friday, October 2 — in exchange for $5 donations to support the charity. “Lee National Denim Day is such an effective grassroots campaign and its importance has become even more real to me in this past year,” Christina says. “By joining together on October 2, we can raise millions to support breast cancer research. It’s so simple and so powerful. I truly believe that events like this help save lives.” Proceeds from the program, which has already raised over 75 million dollars since its inception in 1996, will benefit Women’s Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. Log on now to denimday.com to learn more about Lee National Denim Day and register your own group, or just support any existing team. Then get set to slip into your favorite jeans in the name of a good cause on October 2.

I am horrified that this woman can continue to stand up against breast cance when she’s been through the worst of it, and is still admitted smoker. The hypocrisy is amazing.

Wow, I suppose you have been in her shoes and can point fingers like that. Shame on you for being judgemental. Leave her alone.

I can understand “Disgusted”‘s point of view. I really like Christina Applegate and am thrilled that she is a survivor. As someone who has lost people to cancer, who didn’t get the “second chance” I do get frustrated that she continues to smoke. My Aunt would have done anything, ANYTHING to have one more day on this earth with her children and granddaughter but wasn’t so lucky. Every cigarette that she smokes is a puff of smoke in the face of all those that are left behind by someone who wasn’t as lucky as she is.

I wish her well, but wish she realized what her status of role model really meant.

How dare you judge Christina for anything that she does. Don’t be so self-righteous.

This is to “Disgusted”

I think that you should do some research. A large majority of Breast Cancer diagnoses are caused by hormones, it is very rare for it be caused by smoking, hoever, that does not mean that a survivor, such as myself, should continue to smoke. It is not an easy task, trust me, so get off of your high horse and give the woman some slack.
